Young soul in old body

I was trying to clean my driveway shoveling out some snow and next day my back put me to bed. My body betrayed me and now, even after couple of visits to chiropractor I'm barely walking. It will go away, it happened before. But...

Did you have this feeling when you feel young inside but your body is just not here to support all your ambitions and goals? What do you do to overcome this feeling?

I have to continually remind myself that I'm not in my 20s anymore... and havent' been for the better part of three decades.

This is especially true when I'm on my mountain bike out on the beach trail... I've got a lot of metal holding me together from a motorcycle wreck a quarter century ago. One leg is two inches shorter (turned out it was still broken for five years of walking on it with only a cane [i use a lift in one shoe]... once I switched docs, I got treated for that and was able to throw away the cane. ALWAYS get a second opinion. And don't be a dumb ass like me and wait five years 'cause you like your doc so much... he was a very nice guy... but he was also a troubled doctor.)

I've got all these weaknesses and frailties -- yet to see me crankin' it up on the beach trail you'd think I was a 19 year old who'd never even heard that trouble is real...

Ah, well, live fast, die young, stay pretty.

Oh, wait... WAY too late for THAT one... :D

" What do you do to overcome this feeling?"

I have a full length mirror that goes quite a ways in that direction...

Just a few years ago, I was virtually incapacitated for a year and a half because I was in a car accident and had my lower back badly injured and had to take Oxycontin just to get through the day.

I guess you just try and recover and then try and strengthen your body and take care of it as much as you can to try and reduce the chances of it happening again.

Use hot, cold, hot, cold to help your back.

By this I mean to take a hot shower or bath or use a hot pack.

Follow this up with an ice pack.

Then heat. Then cold. Then heat. Then cold.

It works far better than heat or cold by itself.

My doctor told me not to use the heat for at least couple of weeks, just cold pack. and yeah, actually it's getting better.

I can seat and play again.

Also when I asked him about viagra he resommended to use levitra instead, it works longer :thu:

Try it, ViLo

Did you mean Cialis? That's the three day version.

I stick with Viagra because the side effects are over shortly after the sex. And let's face it, if you're taking an ED drug you probably aren't going to have nonstop sex for three days but you will have the side effects pretty much non-stop. :(

Cialis is faster acting, but if you chew or grind up Viagra and swish it around in your mouth with a sip of alcohol it'll work in 15 minutes instead of an hour. Probably gets absorbed through your buccal mucosa. This also works wonders if you've eaten a fatty meal which would otherwise negate the drug.

Sorry for the "too much information," but consider this a public service announcement.

P.S. What was the topic again? "Young libido in old body?" :o

Most doctors seem to say this, although some European doctors seem to recommend hot-cold-hot-cold more. It helps me greatly, but whatever - the most important thing is that you're getting better. Have a speedy recovery.

Later on, after you've recovered fully and not before, consider looking into Iyengar Yoga and doing a lot of core exercises. Both have helped me immensely.

Thank you UstadKhanAli!

If you tried it once you would remember it forever. Mine problems started when three of us tried to get a grand piano to the second floor. It was heavy I should tell you!

I'm using this cold-heat-cold-heat method and it works.

As about Cailis, MrKnobs - it is a good recommendation, too;)

I assume it's like a plugin compressor, software emulating hardware:D

I should've tried that and I think I have to start my testing. Any recommendations are welcome!

Seriously, libido and music-making are pretty much connected.

I sure do. Like getting out of my car when the parking spaces are tight. All of a sudden I feel 65. I'm 47. My car feels like a low rider and my balance is shot trying not to ding the next car.

What do I do to overcome? I used to drink. Booze has a way of making you feel young... of course shortly after you feel even older than you are so I stopped that. Learning to feel at home in your skin is the key. Accepting who you are... that and a bunch of beer.

Burn your sofa and TV. Go waste time driving around with some music on and the windows open. Get some serious exercise, build up a REAL appetite, eat a big meal, go to bed early and get an actual 8 hours of sleep for once.

Just being rested and relaxed for once is worth a good 10 years younger feeling at least...

Yeah. If you're gonna sit on your ass, at least do it right!

Nothing beats a nice cruise.-~

Not sure about that exercise thing, though. :D Actually, the best thing to do is just go get a real job...where you do some actual work, not sitting on your ass somewhere else but your couch. Like contracting or any trade that involves actual work. Then you don't have to waste your personal time on some stupid exercise. :D

And for God's sake, don't get an internet connection.

A healthy dose of disco on a regular basis is good for eternal youth. m/

One thing overcomes that: Regular exercise. Flexibility, strength, and endurance.

There's no way around it if you want to stay as 'young' as possible.

I've been thinking about this much meself. And I'm at that age-- 43-- where my body is showing its very first signs of not wanting to instantaneously do my bidding.

Most chagrining to me is the way my everyday activity is no longer enough to keep fat from accumulating on my body. To someone who has been skinny, lithe and athletic his whole life, it is a bummer to see my belly and my man-tits getting fat, having my inner-thighs chafe together when I walk. I really don't want anyone to see me naked anymore.

You'd think the human body would be smart: ie., when pounds start to come on, that one's appetite should accordingly decrease. Not so in my case. I still have a teenager's enthusiasm at the dinner table. Oh, we stupid ape-creatures! We can't escape our fleshliness no matter how we try!

I don't know how Mick Jagger keeps that razor-lean cut-abdomen look at age 65.... Astonishing. The Stones' show is almost worth seeing alone just to watch his skinny body furiously gyrate onstage not much differently than it used to in 1971. Maybe the difference in the English and American diets? They always claim our portion sizes are way too big here Stateside, and that we eat like pigs.

Check this out for your back.

http://bodylogic.stores.yahoo.net/maroandmima.html

The MA roller is an ancient Chinese design.

I threw my back out some years ago while trying to change a lawnmower blade. Once or twice a year for a few years afterwards my back would slip out and I'd be incapacitated for a day or two.

Since having the Ma roller Ive escaped this cycle completely.

When I start to feel stiff I use this device and it puts my spine and the muscles around it into an aligned, stretched out, relaxed state. One by one you can position it to decompress and stretch out the muscles around each indvidual spinal joint.

You simply lay on it with your spine in the center trough and allow gravity to pull your spine around the curve- thereby decompressing things locally.

Some folks dont like it cause it can feel a bit hard/harsh at first.

However, I would never give mine up. I travel with it to counteract the effects of bad hotel beds.

Try it
