Members dahkter
Hey forumites, I was expecting the Aussies or the Europeans to start this thread, since no one has, here I go... The tenents, peace on earth and goodwill to men (as mentioned by Linus on Charlie Brown's Christmas Special) tend to ring closest to me. not a fan of the commercialism, and as mentioned, definitely not a fan with a lot of what is going on in the world at this point in time. Either way, a day to be with our families, to be thankful, and to help others is a good thing IMO. Regardless of the name or the denomination, I wish good things to everyone. Best regards and happly holidays to all.

Gus Lozada
I guess that given that many of us are jews, muslims, atheists, budhists and several other religions, in the US is more correct to say "Happy Holidays" other than "Merry Xmas" which will only appeal to Christians / Catholics. ... and that could be the reason that not a lot of people is saying so! Anyway, Merry Xmas to you... and Happy Hollidays to everybody else! Have a great time.

Last jew I talked to had no problem saying "have a merry christmas". And I had no problem saying "have a happy hanukkah". Most christians would probably feel a little offended with "xmas" though, since they are celebrating the birth of the christ and not the birth of X -which was born in the late 70's in LA. Members EccentRick
Peace on Earth and goodwill to mankind... I'll second that, dahkter! I'm not a religious person, myself; but I am a respecter of all who believe as they believe and celebrate the holiday(s) and/or winter solstice as they choose and in the manner in which they are accustomed. Season's Greetings and a healthy, content, Happy New Year, everyone! Rick ------------------------------------------What if they gave a war and nobody came? Members Tedster
I second the "Linus" thing. What a great special. Merry Christmas! And actually, Super, it's not improper, even from a Christian standpoint, to say Xmas. Because it's not "Ex" mas, it's "Chi" mas..."X" being the Greek letter "Chi". The early symbol for Christ were the Greek letters "chi" and "rho" (XP...not "ex-pee" but "chi-rho"). You'll find that symbolism in most churches...the "rho" superimposed on the "chi": And Happy Holidays to everyone else!

Members blackpig
Merry Christmas, or what's left of it, to the lot of ye. We ate the dinner to the tunes of a rather nice Jewish klezmer cd a Protestant friend of mine gave me.
Members myshkin
Can't be too confident in my knowledge but I think Christos is Greek for light and Christ meaning the inner light in each of us, not the adoration of a being separate from us, and so from that viewpoint.....HAPPY CHRISTMAS

I ended up spending much of the late night in the emergency room with my Mom. It's nothing life threatening, but she is in a lot of pain. I guess it's an aging thing. Kinda hard watching your Mom slowly breaking down. Still, it was overall a nice christmas. A little bittersweet, but then....so is life. We have much to celebrate. I think I'm ready for some couch time. To all: Feliz Xidad!!!
