Members Magpel
The Naked and the Dead, and, probably even more importantly--Armies of the Night are freaking great books. He was really one of the last cats to even bid for true, cultural greatness as a novelist. He had the personality for it. While Salinger went away and hid and Kesey couldn't manage to produce anything, and Pynchon was Pynchon (Manny being Manny), Mailer essentially began with by declaring himself the great American novelist; let's see where that goes. I liked him OK.
