Members UstadKhanAli
Hey, that's great!!!! I almost picked up one of those Jonah Thompson flutes that you mentioned, Jeff, but as it turns out, we are getting her a class, which also provides a flute. Should be really cool for her. Fretwizz, duduks are one of my favorite instruments to listen to, and easily one of the most expressive. They're incredible instruments. They're a pain in the rear to play as well, largely due to that 4 1/2 inch reed, but they are so gorgeous and timeless sounding, as if one is listening to a musical instrument that's been around since the beginning of time. Vatche Hovsepian and Djivan Gasparyan, two wonderful duduk players, make some of the most emotional music I've heard anywhere.
Members Mr. Botch
I just got back from a Mannheim Steamroller concert tonight, and they played all kinds of neat obscure wooden and metal flutes, recorders, krummhorns, and things I had no idea what they were. Time to dig out my Lark in the Morning catalog...

Members Jeff Leites
Jeff, you have to make sure to post some photos and MP3s of the new flutes you make! Here's my "Proof of Concept" flute as of this morning : I just wanted to see if I could actually make a wood mouth piece and get something out of it. It actually works! That's a piece of pvc jamed into it. The holes were not positioned or sized for concert pitch... it's just a test prototype. When I get a chance, I'll get some wood and start working on the real thing.
Members Songman68
You sure that is not paraphernalia? Looks like something Tommy Chong would make and sell.
Members UstadKhanAli
Cool!!!! Very good. It does look sort of Tommy Chong-ish, so be careful with that flute if you get pulled over!!
Members D Charles
Are you guys talking flutes or recorders? I've got soprano and alto recorders which I use on at least one tune a CD, but they're plastic. I just won a wood (maple, soprano, made in Germany) recorder on ebay and I'm anxious to try it out. Seems like a wood instrument would have some soul lost on the plastic counterparts. I've just fiddled with recorders, but I guess playing Sax for years in my youth gives me a head start with the things. I can muster up a pretty convincing vibrato when need be.
