mastering an album vs song

Hello,

I'm okay with mastering on a song by song basis (granted, not a pro, but I am occasionally satisfied with my results).

My questions is this, when you're doing an entire album, is it wise to use one final limiter with the same setting across all songs to give it some sort of a cohesion as a whole?

I NEVER add a process to all songs on a global basis, although I may add that process as I do each song.

My feeling about mastering is you want to make each song be the best it can, then put them all together into an artistically satisfying flow. Rarely I'll make an additional tweak to a song based on how it sounds in context, but I mean rarely - the last time I had to do that was years ago.

And FWIW, I'll be giving a one-hour web seminar on mastering that's sponsored by EQ magazine - here's the URL for more details:

It'll set you back $19.95 to sign up, but I really think you would dig it.
