Mississippi Fred McDowell - anyone into N Mississippi slide blues?

I heard some of his stuff a long time ago, but didn't know which stuff. I figured I'd just go and buy the Alan Lomax stuff since I like AL / Rounder. Wow, seriously great stuff!!! It's apparently the first time that Fred McDowell was recorded...I think it was done in the late '50s.

 

And as for Alan Lomax, I can't believe how good it sounds, especially for a recording that old...AND a field recording. That guy always impresses me with whatever he does.

He was B.B. King's cousin, and gave B.B. his first guitar. They say that B.B.'s famous finger vibrato was an effort to emulate Bukka's awesome slide vibrato.

 

Good stuff. I love real blues. You can hear SO much of Keith Richards' and Jimmy Page's sound stemming from there. Origins are cool.
