Moderators Lee Knight Posted May 8, 2008 Moderators Share Posted May 8, 2008 I always dug his mellow easy pop stuff. Pop with a southern edge. Make the world go away And get it off my shoulder Say the things you used to say And make the world go away. Do you remember when you loved me Before the world took me astray If you do then forgive me And make the world go away. Make the world go away And get it off my shoulder Say the things you used to say And make the world go away. I'm sorry if I hurt you I'll make it up day by day Just say you love me like you used to And make the world go away. Make the world go away And get it off my shoulder Say the things you used to say And make the world go away...
Members blue2blue
A fine, characterful voice, some great songs. And a few folks thought so: 85 million records sold. I don't know if they still know who he was in the offices of Nashville -- but he'll be remembered by tens of millions of fans across multiple generations of country fans. RIP, Mr Arnold. Putting together a little memorial set in my subscription player... just looking at the most popular plays in his songs, one great classic after another. First up: "Make the World Go Away"... You can add this song to my "sends chills up your spine" list... When the chorus comes in, my hand reaches for the bottle. Which is, in part, why I don't keep a bottle around.* Another great, great song from Eddy: "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain." *Actually, I'm not a white-knuckler. It was the poetic truth that drew me to that statement. For me, the sound of Arnold's voice is the sound of yearning and regret.
Members rasputin1963
My favorite record was "Anytime" Anytime you're feeling lonelyAnytime you're feeling blueAnytime you feel down heartedThat will prove your love for me is true.Anytime you're thinking 'bout meThat's the time I'll think of youAnytime you say you want me back againThat's the time I'll come back home to you.Anytime your world is lonelyAnd you'll find true friends a fewAnytime you see a rainbowThat will be a sign the storm is through.Anytime will be the right timeAnytime at all will doAnytime you're sure you want only my loveThat's the time I'll come back home to you. --- Instrumental --- Anytime you're thinking 'bout meThat's the time I'll think of youAnytime you say you want me back againThat's the time I'll come back home to you... A simple a song as it could be, but pure Countrypolitan magic. Then there was his great record, "I Really Don't Want To Know", a beautiful record which, if you read between the lines of the lyric, seems to be about a man who has fallen in love with a former prostitute (?) Daring stuff for the 1950's, methinks. Talk about a vocal timbre "just made" for records! He had a superior vibrato, too. RIP, Eddy.
