I met Lionel Richie (Commodore 61) in 1980 or '81 when I was hanging out with a friend who worked at Devonshire Studios. I was in LA for the AES show and my friend invited me over to see the studios. I had an interest in seeing the place for, among other reasons, the fact that one of my favorite Minneapolis bands recorded their first album (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gypsy_(album)) there in 1969. While I was talking to my friend in one of the control rooms a fellow walked in and said "hi" and proceeded to look around the room a bit before leaving. I didn't even recognize him (probably because he was in a tee shirt and blue jeans and not his stage get up). When he left my friend informed me that it was Lionel Richie and that he was working there on a song with Diana Ross. I guess she showed up later that day to work with him on "Endless Love". If only I had known, maybe I could have done some background vocals, but then, that would have ruined the record.
