Happy New Year my fellow HC friends. Wishing you and yours a healthy and happy 2013.

My goals for 2013 are pretty simple:

1) continue to get healthier/wiser with age
2) finish my second album
3) expand my producer palette
4) get out more and see friends face to face
5) start a new vinyl collection and listen to more music
6) attend more live concerts, go to the museum more
7) get involved with producing audio for NPR (composing, engineering, anything)
8) donating my studio services (mixing, mastering) to artists I really love

Peace,
EB

Goals?

I don't really set out to make some, but stuff I have in mind include:

- Completing the second Mercury Seven album.
- Trying to be less frustrated and simply be calmer
- Kick ass teaching
- Make extraordinary photographs, and continue getting better at composition, long exposure photographs, night sky photography, coastal long exposure photography, and so forth.
- Go somewhere interesting this summer. I don't know where. Indian Himalayas, Finland, Norway, Iceland, or Madagascar are on my mind this moment. Tomorrow, I'm not sure.
- Record some interesting bands and make them sound better than they've ever sounded before at my recording studio.
- Go hiking more.
- Go photograph the fantastic sculptures at Borrego Springs again.
- Be neater and more organized.

Thanks, man!!!

And that last one about being neater and more organized... mind if I borrow that one? biggrin.gif
Sure!

This is an ongoing struggle. But I get better each year.

Record and complete an album with my new band "Fenris". At least get it ready to master. This will be tough I've never been able to start and finish a complete project within a year time frame, I feel this is a must.

Improve my skill set and balance in kickboxing. Start doing Tai Chi.

Get my lab in order at work, need to develop a preventative maintenance program to keep everything up to date and operational. People before me were skilled but highly unorganized and lots of stuff is messed up.

My dad found a treasure in a house he bought and started renovating. I want to catalogue all that " coins, stamps, books, paintings, antique toys " unbelievable find. Yet I know nothing about this stuff.

Yeah, recording an entire record within a year seems almost impossible to me. Granted, full time job, two kids, and going back to school leaves me with little time to work on stuff but still, it just seems really difficult to stay focused for that long.

Do you record everyday?

No particular order..

1 - Finish and release MUCH MORE music

2 - Learn video editing and film mixing to expand my business

3 - start/finish 3 short films as director/sound designer/music dood.

4 - learn spanish

5 - tour with my band and some other bands

6 - start a hardcore punk/folk project

7 - Run a specific trail at Runyon Canyon that starts at the bottom to the top of the mountain...without stopping (I'm almost there!)

8 - become a better photographer

9 - become trained in all things fire arms and self defense.

10 - travel more

11 - Record more outside my studio....basically, get out of the house more!

12 - Be a better husband to my wife. Not that I'm not doing a good job now...but I can always do better. smile.gif

13 - Learn how to communicate better...with everyone.

14 - Start a cat sitting business.

15 - Run a mile in under 5:30 (almost there!)

16 - Make and save more money

Good question:

1) Every year for the past 10 years or so my goal has been to weigh less at the end of the year than on Jan 1. It has happened in all but 2 years (stayed the same.) Not easy for a 59 yo!
2) Keep walking and walk faster (I walk 3 times a week, about 2 hours..... last year shaved about 10 minutes off my time.... want another 5 this year.)
3) Lift light weights for upper body strength-- (x 3 per week, after my walk.... not sure I'll be successful here.)
4) Return safely from my trip to Mexico with lots of great photos
5) Return safely from my trip to the Baltics with lots of great photos
6) Actually take a class in photography or post processing from the local art academy
7) Go to more of my photography club meetings
8) Be nicer to people I don't like much (I already try pretty hard to be nice to people I like, actually, I find that easy.)
9) Read more
10) Finish installing the soft synths on my computer and start writing music again
11) Finish going through all the inside closets and cleaning them out, finding a place for everything
12) Continue to be (at least a little) "stuff" phobic and remind myself that more stuff now means more "junk" in the future

There are probably a few others, but that is what comes to mind right now.

1. Transfer some recordings I did on my Tascam 38 to the computer. This involves baking the tape because last time I attempted to transfer there was a bit of flaking going on.(Damn Ampex 456 mad.gif )
2. Play my guitar more.
3. Sing lead on 1 song with my band. I currently only play guitar. I have never sung in public.
4. Be more patient with my kids
5. Record more music (mine or others)
6. Start practicing some form of Martial Art again
7. Roller Blade more
8. Be more careful with what I spend my time and money on.

My goals have been the same for the last two years. They are fairly intangible.

Regarding my art, I want to especially strive for a). overall excellence, b). keen attention to detail, and c). "finish", or giving the final touches needed to make something truly finished and make it a real gift for my recipient.

I definitely want to keep learning photography as well. I've learned a lot in the last year, and hope to keep doing that (latest photos from Joshua Tree here!). Cool to see other people doing that. And learning more about music and recording engineering is just a continuous every year thing as well.

Both of your exercise regimens or goals are much better than mine. I need to do more of this as well, and kick up the weight training a bit.

I like the travel goals too. I always come back changed, and always, I feel, for the better...and it's just such a great thing to do.

Stop sweating the small stuff... inconsiderate motorists, and people who are habitually late for dinner, meetings, and social events. You get to recognize the people who use their tardiness as a bid for attention as opposed to the people who truthfully did get stymied, thru no fault of their own.

I have recently dealt with 'inconveniences' due to Hurricane Sandy, I can deal with the big stuff, no problemo,
Little stuff...
It will probably kill me.

Neatness, organization?
I was once referred to as an 'anal-retentive Nazi' by a former girlfriend and I actually reveled in that title.

What I want to do in 2013 is improve my ukelele, harmonica, and mandolin playing.

I just got that nice Telecaster in my Avatar for Christmas as well as a higher end Koa wood Uke...

I want to learn more jazz chords.

The moment you realize that the commercial/media world is not your friend-- or the majority of it is not--- you are set free. But it's a lonely place to be; most are fixed in its thrall, even those who should seemingly know better. Then, at some point, you will marvel that many of these stimuli are called "fun" or "entertainment".

Well, my wife is a hardcore crossfit junkie...which turned me into one as well. I've lost 15lbs in the last few months. And Runyon is less than 2 miles away. Our crossfit gym used to do crossfit endurance classes there in the summer which really stepped up my cardio. I used to hike but now I run up the mountain. Plus on Wed I try and go to Sky High Sports to jump on trampolines for an hour or 2. Killer workout and a lot of fun! And my wife joins me every time. I really think that's the key...at least for me. She's a fitness junkie so it's great motivation. And she can do handstand pushups. So i gotta keep trying to compete with her! If I wasn't with her I'd probably be 300lbs.

Lonely shmloney, I'm good. Those people upset my finely tuned rate of vibration.
