  • 2013 Goals

Happy New Year my fellow HC friends. Wishing you and yours a healthy and happy 2013.

My goals for 2013 are pretty simple:

    1) continue to get healthier/wiser with age

    2) finish my second album

    3) expand my producer palette

    4) get out more and see friends face to face

    5) start a new vinyl collection and listen to more music

    6) attend more live concerts, go to the museum more

    7) get involved with producing audio for NPR (composing, engineering, anything)

    8) donating my studio services (mixing, mastering) to artists I really love

    Peace,

    EB

      Goals?

I don't really set out to make some, but stuff I have in mind include:

      - Completing the second Mercury Seven album.

      - Trying to be less frustrated and simply be calmer

      - Kick ass teaching

      - Make extraordinary photographs, and continue getting better at composition, long exposure photographs, night sky photography, coastal long exposure photography, and so forth.

      - Go somewhere interesting this summer. I don't know where. Indian Himalayas, Finland, Norway, Iceland, or Madagascar are on my mind this moment. Tomorrow, I'm not sure.

      - Record some interesting bands and make them sound better than they've ever sounded before at my recording studio.

      - Go hiking more.

      - Go photograph the fantastic sculptures at Borrego Springs again.

      - Be neater and more organized.

I`m looking forward to another Mercury Seven record Ken. Listen to the first one a lot and love it. Same goes for your photography. And that last one about being neater and more organized... mind if I borrow that one?

Believe it or not, I'm trying to create a super expressive MIDI interface for the C64, complete with all continuous controllers detection. That hopefully by the end of 2013.

            Sure!

This is an ongoing struggle. But I get better each year.

Record and complete an album with my new band "Fenris". At least get it ready to master. This will be tough I've never been able to start and finish a complete project within a year time frame, I feel this is a must.

Improve my skill set and balance in kickboxing. Start doing Tai Chi.

Get my lab in order at work, need to develop a preventative maintenance program to keep everything up to date and operational. People before me were skilled but highly unorganized and lots of stuff is messed up.

My dad found a treasure in a house he bought and started renovating. I want to catalogue all that " coins, stamps, books, paintings, antique toys " unbelievable find. Yet I know nothing about this stuff.

Yeah, recording an entire record within a year seems almost impossible to me. Granted, full time job, two kids, and going back to school leaves me with little time to work on stuff but still, it just seems really difficult to stay focused for that long.

                    Do you record everyday?

7 - Run a specific trail at Runyon Canyon that starts at the bottom to the top of the mountain...without stopping (I'm almost there!)

                          Good question:

                          1) Every year for the past 10 years or so my goal has been to weigh less at the end of the year than on Jan 1. It has happened in all but 2 years (stayed the same.) Not easy for a 59 yo!

                          2) Keep walking and walk faster (I walk 3 times a week, about 2 hours..... last year shaved about 10 minutes off my time.... want another 5 this year.)

                          3) Lift light weights for upper body strength-- (x 3 per week, after my walk.... not sure I'll be successful here.)

                          4) Return safely from my trip to Mexico with lots of great photos

                          5) Return safely from my trip to the Baltics with lots of great photos

                          6) Actually take a class in photography or post processing from the local art academy

                          7) Go to more of my photography club meetings

                          8) Be nicer to people I don't like much (I already try pretty hard to be nice to people I like, actually, I find that easy.)

                          9) Read more

                          10) Finish installing the soft synths on my computer and start writing music again

                          11) Finish going through all the inside closets and cleaning them out, finding a place for everything

                          12) Continue to be (at least a little) "stuff" phobic and remind myself that more stuff now means more "junk" in the future

There are probably a few others, but that is what comes to mind right now.

                            1. Transfer some recordings I did on my Tascam 38 to the computer. This involves baking the tape because last time I attempted to transfer there was a bit of flaking going on.(Damn Ampex 456 )

                            2. Play my guitar more.

                            3. Sing lead on 1 song with my band. I currently only play guitar. I have never sung in public.

                            4. Be more patient with my kids

                            5. Record more music (mine or others)

                            6. Start practicing some form of Martial Art again

                            7. Roller Blade more

                            8. Be more careful with what I spend my time and money on.
                            Something...

My goals have been the same for the last two years. They are fairly intangible.

Regarding my art, I want to especially strive for a). overall excellence, b). keen attention to detail, and c). "finish", or giving the final touches needed to make something truly finished and make it a real gift for my recipient.
Every paint-stroke takes you farther and farther away from your initial concept. And you have to be thankful for that. Wayne Thiebaud
