Some of the top studio harmonica guys used chromatics because of their flexibility.And, on the SD, yep, bass through a fuzz box. Takes the place of baritone sax in a lot of late 60s style rock/pop arrangements. (Not that this is such an arrangement, although the role of the bass is similar.)
