I enjoy his blog. I don't always agree with every little thing, but then, for me, that's kind of a universal.

 

In this case, as long as he's talking about the professional/career realm, yeah, agreed.

But, I have to say,  I honestly think that DIY recording and music production can be lots of fun. But sometimes you have to keep yourself in check, to some extent, to keep it that way. 

A lot of us creative types are obsessive types. 

I don't obsess over frequencies (to pull a phrase out of the piece) -- and, in fact, barely think technical thoughts when I'm working on a track --  but I do often make obsessive mistakes.

My worst recurring mistake is throwing some scratch parts on to something with the idea that they're just that and then, somehow, I'll allow myself to be seduced by the (typically erroneous) notion that there's enough raw material there that I can 'whip it into shape' with a few deft edits and some sensitive manicuring. 

Uh huh. Sure I can.  grin
