CMS Author MikeRivers Posted April 2, 2013 CMS Author Share Posted April 2, 2013 It's probalby an Astatic crystal mic. In the 1950s, every home tape recorder came with a mic like this. Does it have a cable? No, it's not a great drum overhead or kick or guitar or vocal or xylophone mic. There's probalby a blues harmonica player somewhere that's used one, but mostly it's a nice coffee table curiosity or a "lo-fi" mic if you want one. Moderators Lee Knight Posted April 2, 2013 Moderators Share Posted April 2, 2013 I have that exact mic! I got it for 5 bucks maybe. Mine has a 1/4" jack and I sometimes run it into a guitar amp for the real deal lo-fi vocal effect. It's more G Love and Special Sauce than NIN. Very cool. I've also miced a guitar amp with it for a "poking through the mix" type of rhythm part. Pretty freaking limited but very cool.
