I'm glad he was able to have a comeback in the late 60s.. and the band he had then was fantastic, but it seems like he went downhill pretty fast in the 70s. But he nonetheless had some good things going in the late 60s.I thought "Suspicious Minds" was a fine song and there's something about "In the Ghetto" which, palpable sincerity and on-the-nose good intentions notwithstanding, seems to work anyhow. And I don't think anyone should discount the impact that the white, middle-American fave, Elvis, had when singing that song about vicious cycles and soul-wearying poverty at a time when cross-layered racial animosities were all but tearing American society apart.
