"See a sweet in floral prints,

my mind begins the arrangements" - Rivers Cuomo, Pink Triangle

It just flows...or something.

"Driving home the sky accelerates,

and the clouds all form a geometric shape" - Flaming Lips, I shouldn't lend CD's to friends

It creates a really weird mental image.

"I had a friend once, who took some acid,

now he thinks he's a fire hydrant," TOOL, Gaping Lotus Experience

No particular reason I like this so much. There are just so many lyrics I like, that my favorites are constantly changing, and I thought this was interesting and sarcastic enough to be noncommital :D

"Tears of sadness for you

more upheaval for you

reflects a moment in time

a special moment in time

yeah we wasted our time

we didn't really have time

but we remember when we were young"

"Insight' by Joy Division

I like this lyric because it is emotional yet restrained. I also like how he isn't afraid to end 4 lines with the word 'time.' He didn't force himself to find something else that ryhmes.

Do something about your long filthy hair

It looks like a rats nest

Do something about your mullet

Get out the hair clippers, jerk.

Cut the mullet

Cut the mullet

Cut the mullet

Cut the mullet

Get the rats nest off your head

Get that crazy ass mullet off your skull

Take yo' ass to the barber shop

Tell the barber that you're sick of looking like an asshole.

- Wesley Willis

The Innocence Mission- Rooftop

I hope you are on your rooftop now,

in the sun, in the middle of five hundred flowers,

and the warm wind blows your scarf straight out,

flying like a flag.

I hope you are on your rooftop now.

It's very simple- almost childlike, but there's something I really love about these lyrics.

Suede - "Another No One" off the Sci-Fi Lallabies album...my favorite album ever.

This is thee end.

The final showdown.

This is thee end.

Of or small love.

You'll have to find another real love.

Who will take the {censored} like I do.

As Anthony said to Cleopatra, as he opened a crate of ale...

Some girls are bigger than others

Some girls are bigger than others

Some girls' mothers are bigger than other girls' mothers

Always makes me laugh. Which is not something many people can say about Morrissey and The Smiths.

silent scenes in motion means/

i'll wake you when we're there/

(whoa, sing softly)

time, it seems, in broken dreams/

to sleep beside the stair/

(whoa...)

-phish, billy breathes

it was one of the first songs i ever really loved, and the whole style of the album has stuck with me, no matter what kind of music i've gotten into or made.

Chrubs - Heroin Man

d19871l5r3p.jpg

It has great punchlines, like:

"All I have is weight - All I need is rope"

And there's just something abaout the song "Playdough" that makes me smile - but it's just not the lyrics...it's the way Kevin Whitely sings them combined with the music.

It's one of the best albums of the 90's!

Today is the day - Temple of the morning star

d0589887ajh.jpg

I can allways relate to what Steve Austin writes...and he really is a great writer:

"I live below the sea - don't beat me down trying"

Pink Floyd - The dark side of the moon

e90917w9hct.jpg

Roger Waters sure know how to make a man want to die/live:

'Time' and 'Breathe' are good examples...

"I want to f*** you like an animal!

my whole existence is flawed

youve got me closer to God"

I like this Nine Inch Nails lyric - not sure if it is my favorite - because it points people to the conclusion that the religion they have chosen may have validated their actions, but it is not necessarily good or right that they have chosen it. It also expresses a phsychotic passion...

Currently.....

Muse's new album has a song called Apocalypse Please. It has a really cool line....

"It's time we saw a miracle...come on it's time for something biblical."

I'm not particularly religious, but it says so much.

A lot of Metallica lyrics do it for me but here's some on the top of my head now:

from Pantera's "Walk":

Run your mouth when I'm not around

It's easy to achieve

You cry to weak friends that sympathize.

Can you hear the violins playing your song?

Those same friends tell me your every word

I like that cause the music behind it is awesome and it's just so damn true!!

Also, I like the first line in Deicide's song "Deicide" off their CD Deicide:

No lord shall stand before myself

I love the intro to that song and that's how I feel about religion and "having faith"

Thou shalt write about yourself

It pleases me when you do

My wish for mankind is for mankind to study you

For I so loved the world

That I gave you three chords

That you would write about yourself,

yadda yadda yadda The Lord.

--Stuart Davis, "Uncle Seth's False Gospel"

Sums up all my frustrations with my singer/songwriting perfectly. In general, Stuart Davis is the best songwriter I've ever heard, and I could have picked any number of his lyrics, but this is the one that's sticking with me now.

From Incubus, "Pardon Me":

"Lately I've been thinking of combustication as a welcome vacation from

The perils of, planet earth, gravity, hypocracy and the perils of being in 3-D.

I think you have to hear to to appreciate it.

My other favorite if from the Chili Peppers Californication:

"Little girls from Sweeden dream of silver screen flirtation."

I love the way it rolls off your lips and its such original imagery, as well.
