Members nat whilk II
We had all these 60s gems in the big stack of 45s next to the little record player (not stereo) on top of my brother's dresser - some were actually purchased, but most were acquired via the winter-coat "shopping cart" - [video=youtube_share;4JLNnXgQeqU]http://youtu.be/4JLNnXgQeqU [video=youtube_share;fBTT3VPriV8] [video=youtube_share;PjKx-yLOGEY] [video=youtube_share;jJR_KGZO4U0] nat whilk ii

Members LCK
Paul Schaefer and Company play this a lot on Letterman. One-hit wonder? Yeah, but a good one! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZdrcSjLCjU
Members LCK
Someone mentioned Bobby Charles on another thread. This is a song he co-wrote with Rick Danko, performed here by Paul Butterfield's Better Days, with Geoff Muldaur on vocal, Ronnie Barron on organ, and Amos Garrett on lead guitar. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0eZNvLbXoac
Members nat whilk II
Yeah, Time Won't Let Me was covered pretty well by The Smithereens.....[video=youtube_share;zx5UZGoqv3c] more 60s singles goodness - all '64....more 45s from the stack - we didn't worry about genres much back then... the media worked up this "big debate" as to which band was better and would last, The Dave Clark Five or The Beatles...[video=youtube_share;CtTO1j-ucVs] ahh Dusty, I Love You....the YT says 1967 but trust me, the song came out in '64. Maybe the TV clip with Bacharach was '67...dunno..[video=youtube_share;BpgXGIXen8Q]http://youtu.be/BpgXGIXen8Q the girl groups were still at a peak before soul started changing things up[video=youtube_share;B4KN6TFhy2I] Don't Let The Sun Catch You Crying - Gerry and the Pacemakersthis has been covered a lot deservedly....a George Martin production...I wonder if he came up with that signature oboe part that is so effective[video=youtube_share;LKta_gRc2gA] Needles and Pins - The Searchers, co-written by Jack Nitzsche and Sonny Bono[video=youtube_share;S0oP8e02dpk] all this old material is as much a part of me as all the Pop Tarts I ate that were coincidentally introduced also in 1964 by Kellogg... nat whilk ii

I love how Burt does a nice, workman-like no-frills version at the piano, then Dusty appears and the room fills up with magic. Oh, and nice work on the lyric too, Hal. Very nice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_F4wutgqYLQ
Members rsadasiv
Not feeling the 60's yet. Members rsadasiv
Still not to the 60's yet. Kanye West - I Wonder A big influence on my 808 playing. It's hard to imagine on an acoustic drumset (I suppose you could hire ?uestlove) but on the keyboard the beats makes more sense. The parts/limbs work independently - you don't have the whole body kick-snare thing happening. No four-on-the-floor thump - the kick drum can wander all over the place, accountable only to itself. Play both the beginning and the end of the hi-hat in time. A big influence on my sampling and arranging as well. His samples come with a backstory - he doesn't hide the fact that the sample had a previous life on another record, he emphasizes that fact, and the curatorial aspect of his selection becomes part of the new song. Even though it is your song, someone CAN take it away.

Members bee3
A band I'm sure you've never heard of, but as high school musicians... we followed these guys around Philadelphia whenever they played an all ages show. They also went to my high school... probably about 7 - 10 years before I was there... They were SO good.
