"Easier Done Than Said."

Mother raised me to believe there is one god alone

but I find in my heart that I've got more than a dozen

Each one's got a name, its own ranks and requirements

Some tell me to keep up, while others try to keep me down

Some demand I be strong, only never face-to-face

while others remain true and wait 'til I've fallen apart

Loyalties lie.

It's a struggle inside each of us all - I'm not the only one

It's said getting by in this life has always been easier said than done

but selling out for bread is easier done than said

can't get ahead - can't find my way

there ain't no in - there ain't no out

can't find a way to make do without

Knowing that you're good as dead is easier done that said

I thought I worshipped love and I prayed for beauty

to come along my way and give this life a meaning

'cause I traded out mine to kneel beneath the altar

of the only place that I have left to go these days

We'll be leasing out ourselves as we live to keep alive

And this is all that's left of too many years ahead

Loyalties lie.

Now it comes the time when I will choose for myself,

though nothing that remains is by my design

We've bargained for our souls and we've sold them back

for pennies on the dollar - that's if they ever pay

We've dealt away our dreams with nothing left to sell

You give away your life; in return, you get to give it away.
