I Like You

I hope this works.

This is just what it looks like. A song for someone you like. A song of appreciation without any love or romance. Could be to any friend.

I LIKE YOU

I like you, you make me smile

you make the clouds all turn and miss me by a mile.

You're the best that ever was

near as I can tell

a little of your laughter leaves me ringing like a bell,

I like you.

I like you, you're pretty great

to know you're there tomorow, I can hardly wait

your a shiny copper penny in the bottom of the pool

a double dipper sundae on a day there is no school

I like you.

(whistle verse)

You're the kind of friend I need, to get me through the day

you're cool, you're neat, you're really sweet,

and all I have to say

is I like you.

I like you, you make me laugh,

your silly smile is just a giggle and a half

when you walk into the room I know the air is fit to breath,

until you turn to go, you know that I will never leave

I like you

I like you

I like you

Good lyric, though it would be nice if you would post it so we could find all the little nits that need picking. ;)

I especially liked the line "double-dipper sundae on a day when there's no school."

Not sure if you intended it as a kid's song, but I'm definitely getting that vibe.

Quite nice.

What's that percussion? Are you tapping on your cheek?

I was waiting for some revealing conclusion. Or some twist. (But that's just me). The last line:

"Until you turn to go, you know that I will never leave," left me a little flat. It just sits there. Like I said, i was waiting for something more conclusive or revealing.

But very nice.

+1. I didn't see any other nits to pick.

I really like this song, for the most part anyway. The melody seems a little flat to me. Maybe because it sounds like one of Rick Dieffenbach's tunes, only he always comes up with really, really good, really inventive tunes.

As for the lyric, some of the lines made me smile, others made me chuckle. The opening verse is killer!

There are a few I might consider working on, if I were you. They're in bold.

your a shiny copper penny in the bottom of the pool

a double dipper sundae on a day when there's no school (my suggestion)

I like you.

I like you, too, Jack!

Ha! I heard it that way when I listened before he posted the lyrics.

LCK, looks like you've got some competition in the whistle-verse department now. :poke:

I don't know what that means, but I'm glad you to know we think alike (sometimes).

You always give very good advice.

OK, obviously I am a lyricist and not a melodist (just invented that word). That is why I'm chasing down you guys.

RE: lyrics.

How about this?

Verse 2

I like you, your freakin' great,

to know you're there tomorrow I can hardly wait

you're a shiny copper penny in the bottom of the pool,

a double dipper sundae on the final day of school

I like you.

Verse 3 (4 if you count the whistling)

I like you, you make me laugh,

your silly smile is just a giggle and a half

when you walk into the room I just cannot hold back a grin

You straighten out the day no matter what shape I been in

I like you.

First off, I like you too baby.

Ha. The Rick D. thing went through my head as well. Like Marshal, I was sort of waiting for a twist, but I wasn't bothered that it stayed a straightforward/sincere appreciation song. Production wise, I would get rid of the vocal double starting in the second verse (:35) - it was very surprising and took me out of the one guitar-one voice-live take place I was enjoying.

Thanks, man. I was referring to your suggested wording change to the double-dipper sundae line. Your suggested change is the way I thought I heard that line the first time I listened. I subconsciously corrected the slightly awkward original wording.

Well... I like "You're pretty great". Not trying to be contrary here though. It's that sort of oxymoronic phrase you hear that's minimizes the superlative. It's funny and fits right in with I Like You. That simple statement is also the minimizing of the superlative "I Love You".

If anything I'd play the angle up more.

Well ... I can not help with the lyrics because, as you can see, English is my third language ... But I like the song. It is charming, peaceful and easy to play with friends :) I will listen it again on the way to the dentist, to try to calm down hahah.
