I park in the cottonwoods

grab my shotgun and knife

gonna walk that dark country road

and take the old man's life.

 

It's an old story. It's been done in movies a million times: "Double Indemnity," "Blood Simple," "Body Heat."

Has it been done as a country song?

Probably, almost certainly.  But it still is pretty damn cool.

I'm not a fan of "quiet as a mouse" - feels too wimpy and Christmasy, but otherwise it is good stuff.

The Killers

 

The narrator is inside the house, describing what he thinks could be happening outside the house. Them as the turn, you switch POV to the killer outside the house, who is going through the same motions described in verse 1.
