  • Good Motown songs in three-quarter time?

How many Motown classics are written in three-quarter time?

I tried Googling this and came up with nothing. Found one vaguely interesting comment that it must have been difficult to write that style in three quarter, but no explanation as to exactly why.

There are a ton of good Motown songs but the only ones I can think of are in 4/4.

The blue2blue quote is (pun intended) 2 droll. "... in a certain sense, vaguely amusing" sounds like something a world-weary Brit would say. Maybe Jagger. But not Richards.

    Zero.

As an interesting side note, I once heard from a bass player I know that reggae started as an attempt by Jamaican musicians to imitate the Motown beat...

“Good Vibrations” was probably a good record but who's to know? You had to play it about 90 bloody times to even hear what they were singing about. What’s next? Rock opera? —Pete Townshend, Melody Maker Interview, 1966.
