Members bee3
Just noodled around with this last night... very raw. http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=11772561Updated version: http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=11775794 I don't know what it's about yet... the lyrics are temporary I suppose. Is the melody too familiar? I'm picturing a stark beginning... maybe not a proper chorus... but the song keeps building to a lush ending. Not sure yet... really, it's just an hour of noodling late last night. Progress? Scrap? We could battle it outWith such good intentWe could put up a wallAnd hide behind itWe could make up a sceneAnd act out the partsPlay them all... We could write a new pageAnd use fancy wordsWe could write a new tuneAnd sell it to the first one who is thereWho promised the world our downfall
Members stickboymusic
Of course you should finish it. You are in fine voice good sir. I like the lyrics also. reminds me of bread for some reason. I like bread.

Moderators Lee Knight Posted July 17, 2012 Moderators Share Posted July 17, 2012 Yeah! It does have a little of Bread's "If" in it. But not really... you don't need to change any of the melody, it just has a tinge of it somewhere. So what's it mean? We could battle it out With such good intent We could put up a wall And hide behind it We could make up a scene And act out the parts Play them all... We could write a new page And use fancy words We could write a new tune And sell it to the first one who is there Who promised the world our downfall To me... it means, we could do all those things we're supposed to do. We could do all the things people feel we should, but... what do you want to do? What do I want to do. We've got a problem, how do we want to deal with it and screw everybody else. This is on us. I'm just giving you the first thing that it meant to me since you said you weren't sure what it was about yet. That sort of owning up to my own feeling as I went through the initial stages of my divorce (we reconciled), that soul searching was a life changing process. To decide for myself and to not let the drift of others ideas and intent guide me. But to stop and and say, "What is it that I... ME... what do I want to do. That may not be what it's about for you though.

Members bee3
Yeah... I was thinking I could go through all of these "We could" scenarios (maybe that's the name of the song... We could...), then resolve it at the end with a Nah, let's just do what we want kind of thing.

Members rhino55
But the real question is... who is the "we"? You could easily make this about lovers. Build tension the whole song We could battle it outWith such good intentWe could each put up a wallAnd hide behind itWe could follow the script And act out our partsPlay them all... Then the release would be when it switches to "or we could make love/screw/however you want your characters to address coitus." Instead of the release part being an "or" you could even have be "I don't care as long as we end up..." Given this scenario, I'm not as much a fan of the second verse. Members Oswlek
Even before listening, I was going to type "yes". Out of professional courtesy, I listened and I think I was right.
Members bee3
OK... I've decided to go for a not-so-Bread production. I'm going to Toast it... something a little darker... a bit seasoned.

Members bee3
Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Give it a chance! Incidentally... anyone know how to sync the Boom Drum Machine plug-in to a track? If I wanted to get it to start when I hit record? I'm terrible with this kind of thing. If I wanted to get it to start when I hit record? I'm terrible with this kind of thing. Gosh, I've done it but I had to search a bit. It's not obvious. Here's what I grabbed just now off the AVID forum but... So as I recall, you trigger by playing midi keys. That will trigger a sequence. Around middle C. There is pretty good docs in the Pro Tools plug in manual I think it is...
Members bee3
Updated version: http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=11774643 Vocals are a bit rough... I have a cough and am just not nailing them yet. Updated lyrics: We could battle it outWith such good intentWe could each build a wallAnd hide behind itWe could follow the scriptAnd act out the partsPlay them all... We could break for the shoreWhen weather is roughWe could float through our livesnever to know what its like to have lovedOr to have fallen apart We could settle right downBuild up our homeWe'd have each other's backsWhen they're up to the wallWe could hold our heads upAt the end of it allWe're all right We could break for the shoreWhen weather is roughWe can control our livesChange our direction and do what we likeJust cause we've fallen in love
Members Oswlek
Definitely more Floyd influenced now. Sounds a little like "Us and Them" at the open. The "ooh" parts also make me think of them, but not a particular song. They are incredible, BTW. I'm personally hoping that you take their lead and launch into one of the solos that LK mentions in your sig. That song is just dying to explode, IMO. I don't know how attached you are to the stuff you are laying down now, but the snare doesn't sit right. Too tinny and hollow. Oh, the vocals are better than you indicate, and better than what you posted yesterday. A lot of it sounds like it is good enough to keep.
Members bee3
Hmmm... an organ solo you're thinking? Not tied to the snare at all actually... I wasn't even going to have percussion, but was trying something a little different... percussive ambience.

Members LCK
It's terrific. I love the nod to Brian Wilson in the "ooohs." There are a couple of lines that stick out b/c of a clunkiness to the rhythms. "We can hide behind it" and "we can control our lives." But other than that, I like where it's going. And I love the tune and the overall vibe. LCK
