In the late 1980s I worked on making a musical out of an Irish play titled The Playboy of the Western World, about a young man who's killed his father and wanders to the wild west coast of Ireland, feeling he's doomed, but runs into some strange people there who think of him as a hero.

The story starts with three men who are off to a wake, where they'll have more than enough to drink.

The daughter of the gang's ringleader is upset that she was to stay home while they go out drinking.

This is their reply (I have a recording of this song, but it's on a cassette tape!):

"A Wee Drop"

A wee drop, we drop everything

I love that Lee. I got to hear it. The lyric seems like it would be very cool as a folk ballad with fiddles and banjos etc.

Thanks.

It would be cool as a folk ballad. Unfortunately what I actually wrote was an attempted Guys and Dolls sort of thing. However, most of the other tunes are more folk-ey, so maybe I should try that with this lyric.
