Members ringo11
whats the deal with a 4 bolt on a 71'?
Members Garlon
The 4-bolts were discontinued in mid-1971. Most of the Strats from 1971 that you will ever see are 3-bolt necks from when they changed the manufacturing. The 4-bolts from this year are very hard to find, and you will never see one in the condition this one is in, not to mention 100% original parts. Members Garlon
This is what my guitar looks like. However, I am not asking for $25k like this shop is: 1971 Fender Strat 4-Bolt
Members ringo11
Nice! my 72 is 3 bolt and has been worn out for years.(neck) It just sets enjoying retirement.
Members Garlon
Well you can get this 1971 from me for substantially less than $25k if you are interested. It is in immaculate condition, including the original frets.
Members ringo11
though I've worn out the strat, I've learned I dont like the small neck radius of vintage instruments. One of these days I'll get around to replacing it with a Warmoth Pro or maybe one of the 12" radius Fender necks.

Members Garlon
I'd be willing to negotiate a bit on the $19500. I could probably go to $18000. 1971 strats like these and mine are very hard to find because of the one-piece maple neck. It is much more common to see the rosewood fingerboard on these guitars. The one-piece maple neck is quite rare and sought after. Here are some other 1971 4-bolt strats with one-piece maple necks for sale from other places: 1. This one is $25k and it appears to be in the same condition that mine is in. This is the most comparable one to mine for sale. You could have mine in the same condition and save yourself $7k. http://www.garysguitars.net/products/1391/1971-Fender-Stratocaster-Sunburst-Tremolo-Maple-Neck-4-bolt-FEE0414.htm 2. This one is $14k, but it's not in as good condition as mine. This one is NOT 100% original either. The description says changed nut and refret. Mine is 100% original and the original frets are in spectacular condition. Why spend $14k on a guitar that is not 100% original when mine is only a few thousand more? http://www.gbase.com/Stores/Gear/GearDetails.aspx?Item=1893696 3. This one is $15k, but the condition is not as good as mine. It does not say whether or not it is 100% original. http://www.gbase.com/Stores/Gear/GearDetails.aspx?Item=1790978

Members kingsransom
With mid-60's (66-69) going in the mid teens, I think it will be difficult to get that much for a 71. GBASE and Gary's are notoriously high priced - basically dealers who don't care if they sell or not. I am not trying to talk down your guitar or the price. I have a 66 strat that I am selling for $15k or best offer, and times are tough out there. I wish you the best in selling yours. Looks like a very cool guitar. Members Crucified138
blue book puts that guitar at 8500 usd in perfect shape.
Members kingsransom
That seems low. The VG Price guide shows $10k-11k for a 1970 4 bolt and $9k-10k for a 3 bolt 1971 model. These guides are a bit of a crap shoot though...
Members Garlon
Crucified138 - Try to find a 1971 4-bolt stratocaster w/one-piece maple neck in 9+/10 condition that is 100% original for less than $15k in any print advertisement or online vintage dealer. It's almost impossible to find this guitar at all, at best you will see a few examples with the rosewood fingerboard, which is more common than what I have. KingsRansom - you are probably right that I would be able to sell it faster for around $10k-12k. The VG priceguide, however, does not differentiate between the rosewood fingerboard models and the 1-piece maple neck models unfortunately. $9k for a 3-bolt seems excessive, those are abundent and nobody wants them. I have never seen a 1971 3-bolt up for sale for that price, even $5k seems high for a 3-bolt from that year.

Members Pig Vomit
I agree, if I had $17k for a guitar, it sure would be anything from the 70's, 4 bolts or not.
