Members Carminemw
For all my drum brothers...my new kick is banging pretty good. Here are some pix of the drum with the new lift from Pearl. The front view is an adhesive vinyl print of the band logo. The batter head is the most interesting I'm using an EMAD 16" with the smaller ring intalled. Also you will see that the inside of the drum is filled 1/2 way with crumpled up newspaper, a technique I learned from watching a video from Australia on the Sonor Martini kit. The final add on for protection and sound is my new home made leather beater pad. It's about an 1/8" thick flexible natural leather. You really can't find them any more, and I had one for over 30 years, but it got lost in the shuffle (no pun intended...well maybe just a little) It also enhances the impact as well, but not like a metal pad or kevlar falam slam. It kinda gives you the impact sound of a baseball hitting the catchers mitt when catching a a fastball And believe it or not, it even lowered the focused pitch a bit by cutting out yet even more overtones. I use it with a hard plastic beater...gives a good solid knock!

Members Carminemw
To still gig but maintain a new compact kit. I still have the boom but with more punch...I'm tired of carrying big equipment into small locations
Members Drummer44
Ah. Yep, lots of good to be said about lighter, more compact equipment. I'm experimenting with a Yamaha DTX-Multi 12 for similar reasons. Have it voiced to replicate my real kit; sounds kinda OK, but can't say as I like the feel of the pads. Still, for some kind of casual use, and assuming an available PA, it's minimal equipment to schlepp around. -D44

Members Dendy Jarrett
Carm, I am testing for review the new Sabian mic system. It is an affordable easy KISS theory system that uses 2 overheads and a bass drum mic. It has its own mixer which includes a send to the drummer. Might work well with your little setup. I'll let you know as my review progresses.
