  • Making Your own Drums

I really want to make my own drums. I have a good kit right now, so I'm in no hurry and want to take my time and do it right. I think in the long run, it will be very rewarding.

Anyways, does anyone know of any reputable, high-quality sources for shells and hardware? I'm aware of drummaker.com. How are they? Others?

Also, are there any online DIY type articles, etc.?

    Thanks.

www.drummaker.com , it's the only one you'll ever need, the owner can get you just about anything. They have a ton of stuff. I'm gonna be using them in the near future as well....

drummaker has the most stuff, there shipping time is good too
      they also do good edges
as for tips goto the message board on the homepage of drummaker.com
they have tons of info from builders they can answer anything for you
the most important thing to do with building drums is to take your time
also try to build a snare first to see if you enjoy the process
if it comes out like crap like my first one did sell it on ebay for $50 and get some $$ back
      good luck

I agree on drummaker. You can also check www.amdrumparts.com if it's still around... haven't checked in a while (I preferred drummaker awhile ago). I highly recommend going into drummaker's forum if you need or want advice about anything DIY. Good luck, I want to make my own too someday!

Heres the site to buy keller shells direct. www.aitwood.com/catalog_drum_shells.htm You'll have to go elsewhere to get lugs, hoops, hardware & such.
