I use:

Silingerland Radio King (steel) 5 1/2" x 14"

TAMA (Steel) 6 1/2" x 14"

Blue Moon Custom (9 ply) 9" x 12"

Rogers (9 ply) 5 1/2" x 14"

REMO PTS (6 ply) 5 1/2" x 14"

CB 700 (steel) 6 1/2" x 14"

The TAMA and the Blue Moon Custom are the 2 I use with my Kit, the rest are mostly for recording and just in case I need another one, so I like my snares vary deep. I am thinking of getting a Slingerland Brass shelled 7" x 14"

Noooo, don't do it! It's expensive as hell, and you're just paying for the name really......

Dig it

Sounds like the 5 or 5 1/2 x 14 is pretty common.

I've usually a played metal snare, so wasn't sure of a commen wood thickness...thanks Woody.

Pork Pie makes a great snare, small enough to place, as a second snare, next to the hi hat and main snare. 4 x 12, kinda expensive for a side snare though...ack.

1-Zildjian Noble & Cooley alloy snare 14"-my favorite

2-Ludwig Brass hammered snare 14"-cracks

3-ADM wood snare 12"-perfect popcorn snare

4-Yamaha wood hoop Anton Fig model 14"-very funky sound

5-Ayotte wood hoop maple snare 14"-pure tones

6-Ayotte wood hoop piccolo maple snare 14"-pure pop

7-Ludwig Chrome snare 14"-standard sound

8-New England custom wood snare 14"-incredible crack

I use the 1st- 6 snare drumzz I use on 3 different kits ,each has a sound that I like & can use.The Zildjian Noble & Cooley is the best snare I've heard in life, extremely powerful & articulate.

5 x 14 Premier XPK (birch-eucalyptus-birch)

8 x 14 Tama SuperStar (birch)

The Premier I use as my main snare, very versatile. I use the Tama as a secondary snare, however I am getting used to using it more and more. It really is a powerful sound (the "8" x 14 wasn't a typo...).
