Members mparsons
I'm a beginning drummer ( but I do know music pretty well ) What's a good 'first' song to learn for an aspiring metal drummer? Something simpler and easier but good for teaching fills, transitions, beats, etc. Thanks!

Members aqualung211
Any pre-Black album metallica tunes. Pantera no doubt...although songs like Becoming and Psycho Holiday might be too hard for a noob. So early days metallica, and some pantera. Awwwww {censored} it..i'll hook up links. Simple back beat, yet holds the song together: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONZ9bL2WGBE Another simple back beat, but it's the glue to the song, and fun as {censored} to play...besides...who doesn't like flaming Chinas? : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3UcCxdVtvo Phil Anselmo owns you: I'd kill myself for you...i'd kill you for myself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sR8mracdlzM Thats all for now:wave:

Members Zeromus-X
Demanufacture by Fear Factory is a good one to work on heel-toe and double bass speed/technique. Getting those little triplets in there while maintaining a steady beat is tough.

Members Kabaalk
Disturbed - Bound Pretty simple.Metallica - Fuel Fairly Easy. Great for technique - one of the first songs I llearned. Metallica is great for beginners. Ignore the Requiem for a dream video... the Tool video is way better...
Members FitchFY
+1 to all the early Metallica stuff! The feel is spot on and it's fast... but not too fast! Master of Puppets and ...And Justice for All, especially!

Members tkobel7
I dont know exactly what ideal metal song is good for a beginner, but i can give you a suggestion and you can do with it what you want. Go out and find a ludwig speed king pedal. One of the really old crappy pedals that john bonham used back in the day and for the first few months or however long you want, use that pedal until you are really good and comfortable with it. Then, after so long go out and get yourself a top of the line pedal and you will be scary good on it. THats what i did and im told i have a great right foot. just a suggestion...peace tony kobel
