Any bands you love but also hate?

Haven't been a band fanned since The first 4 Zeps. Period. Don't even know Houses or Song Remains - recognize a smattering of the recognizable riffs but that's it. Since then it's been individual tunes, the majority prominent enough to get to my ears - major radio IOW. Do not otherwise care for the respective bands so there's no hate involved unless I had bought their (more often than not) disappointing album(s).

I feel the same about U2, but bailed after Under a Blood Red Sky - I also quit listening to REM after Life's Rich Pageant. Probably shows my age & era, but I felt both bands veered stylistically in a drastic way after those records.

My favorite band with a bad drummer: The Meat Puppets are a band I have always really liked, but they really had a very poor drummer in Derek Bostrom.

2 classic rock bands that I like the 1st half of their careers are Tom Petty & Aerosmith - No interest in Aerosmith post Run-DMC comeback & only like earlyTom Petty before he discovered that strummy hit making style.

I am a huge Who & Keith Moon fan, but am only really a rabid early Who fan - the later 70's stuff that gets big & excessive is hit & miss for me. But I couldn't be a bigger fan of early mod Who up 'til Tommy or so.

There are several bands that their first album was amazing, and their following albums were dissappointing. I guess all of their creative juices were shot in that first album. It's not a matter of hating, because a lot of times the bands faded away after the non-success of album 2.

A prime example of this is Captain Beyond, a MUST listen to anyone considered a progressive rocker, just from the historical significance (remember the year it came out 71-72, and what else was happening in music at that time). The album cover itself is one of the most collectible in album history. Their second album? Boring. Done.

It may be shock value, and then failure to continue innovation. Felt a little the same with Emerson Lake and Palmer, amazing first album, Tarkus, their second, though good, but the shock value of innovation was gone.

It wasn't really hate, just dissappointment that obviously excellent musicians failed to continue pushing the envelope if that makes any sense.

for me it's U2. I love their 80's stuff but can't stand most anything past Achtung Baby.

What about you guys?

Same. I cant bear to listen to anything new they put out. I still buy it, though...but never make it through the whole cd.

There's a ton of bands I loved that I no longer do, but hate is a bit strong...

I don't hate most recent U2, or REM to use two examples already mentioned...I just don't care for or consider it.

But I don't think it's any surprise when a band has a couple albums that I consider great/amazing, or even just good/decent, and then falls off. That's actually to be expected.

As far as bands turning {censored}ty after a certain period of time... Incubus is the first that comes to mind. Pretty much any classic rock band that started in the 60's or 70's. If they were still putting out music in the 80's and 90's, it was horrible.

man, incubus, for sure.

dillinger escape plan, korn, king's x, ozzy, rhcp, stone temple pilots, hayden, wilco, METALLICA, tool, mastodon, cannibal corpse.

Yeah, that's kinda what I was thinking (except for King's X, because I've never really listened to them, sorry Fitch)

The Eagles. My mother od'ed me on them growing up, but I still love "Life in the Fast Lane," and get nostalgic when I hear some of their songs. I dislike their obvious attempts at commercialism, being the band version of Jimmy Buffet, their justification about taking down Youtube covers, etc. Joe Walsh is badass, though.

King's X: My total favorite, but their last few CDs have had some  moments. But also great moments...

Incubus: anything after their third album was poop

Korn: I really like their newest album, but what band secures one of rock's greatest drummers (Ray Luzier) and then makes him record a crappy "angst" album and then something half-programmed?!?

Staind: When they're heavy and "on," it's so killer. Then that ballad tripe...

More tomorrow... great thread!

I like this thread, but it also makes me ashamed. I'm going to pull out 2 of the most "modern" examples... of my love/hate bands.

#1 - Creed - Love the BAND, hate the singer. But I like the music enough I couldn't reconcile my disdain for my appreciation. THANK G_D for Alter Bridge fixing that!!

#2 - Nickleback - Another +1 for a solid as hell band and great songwriting...but lyrics that make you want to stand up and jump off a cliff. It only takes 2 ingredients to write Nickleback lyrics... rhyming and a topic related to sex. I'll write some Nickleback lyrics now, off the cuff...

"I really want to know, how far that you will go, I'd really like a blow, job you'll never show...

Until we have a chance, that finally we should meet, we'll go between the sheets, you'll feast upon some meat."

If my name was Chad Kroeger, I would have just made a million dollars on those lyrics.

Primus - a band I love the ingenuity of, but sometimes they're just too off the grid for me. Not sure what a live show would actually be like...

Metallica - obvious reasons

Muse - they're so creative and pushing boundaries, but their last two albums have fallen painfully short for me

Maroon 5 - Songs About Jane is a GREAT album with some awesome sly funky to it, and everything past that is lame.
