Try this:

right click on the Desktop, then click on "View", then uncheck "Align to grid".

Hope that works.

edit: oops! scratch that.

right click on the Desktop, then click on "View", then uncheck "Auto Arrange" for the icon arrangement issue.

couldn't find anything about turning off the folder destination thingy.
