    I bought a set of microphones and I want to start to learn how to do recordings at home. I plan on using Cubase on a Windows laptop. I

    hey, brother.
    i got me one of these:http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Delta1010LT.html

    i've recorded whole live band projects with it.
    i had an 8 bus mixer, plus i ran a stereo mic as well for capturing rough recordings, like practices. (cpu has to work hard for 8 busses. having an option for less, especially for rough recordings, made it quicker.)

    long story short, it's faster than a usb solution. supposedly less noise, too.

      when you pre-mix the drums via a mixer, then you don't  have individual drum tracks

      to have each drum on an individual track you need an audio interface which has as many mic inputs as you use microphones on the drumset
