Members Sick boy78
I've got a custom made 16x16" kick drum with RemoFiberskyns on both sides. I don't have a port on this drum and because of the size I'd rather not put one on. My mic is a cad 412 and I've been using it outside the resonance head in various positions. I've been getting quite a bit of ring and overtones like this through the pa speakers. My tuning is generally loose on the batter, and tight on the reso. Muffled with very light blanket touching both heads and small light ring muffle around the batter head. So I've been thinking of mounting this mic inside the drum. If anyone has done this, how were the results? I think this would be a lot easier when playing out as far as set up. But im wondering if this might help with getting a better "thump" without ring with this size drum. Any input appreciated!
Members race81
Here is the thread on my recent install. This is on a 22, but the theory is the same. Kelly Shu...and May Mic'ing systems make good mounts to look at. The better kick mic you have...the better it will sound also. http://www.harmonycentral.com/t5/Drum-Forum/Kick-drum-mic-install/m-p/34820180#U34820180

Members Sick boy78
It is. It's a small bass drum with wood hoops, spurs and all. Can't use it vertically.
