It varies depending on how often I'm gigging. I play every Wednesday for 2-3 hours with a funk band, and gig 3-4 hours per weekend with my rock cover band. That's the lion's share of my playing, though random jam sessions on a Sunday/ Monday add in, too. I'd love to get my kit set-up in my actual practice place, though! I miss chopping out!

Today's Question: How big is your bass drum?

My main kick is 20" but I also have a 15" auxiliary kick that I keep to the side.

One kit has a 22", the other has a 20".

Good playing can hide a crappy drumset, but even the best drumset can't hide crappy playing.

Today's question: When is the last time you had to audition for a band?

Technically it was when I joined City in about Oct/Nov of last year. But the only time I really felt like I had to audition rather than just jam to see how we all meshed, was when I tried out for Krucible in Houston back in 2008. That was a grueling challenge for me at the time, and its also the first time I was rejected from a band.

Really, I feel Ive only had 4 true auditions.

-Hamilton Loomis for a summer touring job, but I couldnt do it due to schedule conflicts with starting college that fall.

-Ezra Charles Band, I spent two weeks preparing but they ended up scoring a well know guy from Austin two days before I had a chance to try out! D:

-Krucible. Power and prog metal at a time when I was just learning there was music to drum to outside classic rock and blues.

-Dusks Embrace. Best audition ever. Was sent drumless tracks to record over, then when they liked those they invited me to a live audition. Went well despite my fumbles, so well in fact that we all ended up going out to dinner and to see The Avengers as it opened that night. Sadly, before we got to the point of playing shows I moved up to Portland. Still, we did get to play together when they opened for City last Friday night.

All that said, I feel like I am auditioning for my own throne in a band each gig we play. It never gets easy.

No, the goal is to keep everything in one place so that people can find all of the questions and answers in the same thread.

It's never been a problem before but just in case, I can keep a tab of all of the questions on the first post in the thread if that helps.

From a participation standpoint it's all fun but what about those who just search for info?

This thread is more about participation and learning things about each other than it is a fact finding thread. Like I said, I can keep a list of all the questions asked on the first post but I hold the same thread in other forums and it's never been a problem before. It's just about having fun! There are plenty of quality threads where people can find more specific answers or ask a specific question for more direct answers.
