Members fretless
ok who's is it http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160312741405&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.ebay.com "These special strings are different then ordinary strings because they are the same thickness as regular bass strings but they don't have that corkscrew string wrapped around a straight string look and feel. I thing they may have started out like regular strings and then dipped them into melted steel, but I'm not sure. There is no sign of the corkscrew wrap around on any of the strings. They are made of stainless steel and are very smooth. If you've ever played a regular base you know how hard cheap strings are on your fingers. These special strings create more of a smooth feel and sound as opposed to a gritty sound when you press the strings against the neck and keep them pressed, while you slide your fingers up and down the neck. Since there are no frets you can slide further and easier then a fretted base and it is not wearing to the skin on your fingers. With ultra smooth strings the base sounds cleaner and smoother. Smooth strings also make the guitar easier to play because you can never erroneously stop your fingsers after a slide and land them on top of a fret instead of behind the fret. They are the original strings that came with the guitar."

Members basshunter
I think the important question is, how many picofarads do those fab "dipped in melted steel" strings have?
Members Renfield
Maybe they really are as described. The original protos for DR's flatwounds had no wraps at all, was one thick cable, so things like that have existed before.
