Try removing effects from the chain... check for bad cables... lots of effects doesn't really mean that their should be any unwanted noise... You can get into shielding the electronics in the bass, but it's probably easier to eliminate the noise at the source if possible. I've met guitarists that put limiters at the end of their signal chains with some success, but I don't have any personal experience with this method.
