I have certain devices that only like certain cables and chargers... My GPS only works on the ones with the iron ferrite thing on it. I have some hard drives that use a little short one, but my phone, BT headset, and more won't recognize the little short one. I have one that is a V cable with 2 USB on one end and a mini USB on the other so you can have 2 power leads if the device your plugging up doesn't get enough juice...
