I resurected this old '71 The Bassman head. Inside it was very clean  and looks almost new. Picked this thing up for free yrs ago and its just been collecting dust. Got a new 4 ohm Carvin 15 for this old cab to match impedence. New set of JJs, fixed a bad solder joint, put on a grounded cord and fired it up yesterday. In the bedroom it sounds great on 3. Warm, fat, and punchy. (SX P/J w flats )Cant wait to try it at band vol tonight. I think its gonna do great, we are not a super loud band. This is pehaps the best bass tone Ive ever had, certainly the most vintage sounding, tho my bass amp experience is pretty limited(Peavey & Fender SS Combos, SWR WM12).

Of course guitar is awesome thru it, but Im pleasantly suprised at the bass tone. Anybody ever had any experience actually playing bass thru a SF Bassman?

I've got that same head and the matching 2x15" cabinet in my studio. It sounds amazing for old school tones, especially using a P bass with flatwounds. I don't gig with it because it is just too heavy and fragile to take out.

With the 1-15 cab, its not too bad bulky or heavy. I'll want to be careful with it of course. Head will ride on the pasenger seat. I wouldnt take it anywhere where it might get abused or a beer spilled on it but I really want to see how it performs. My usual rig for this band is an upright>PADI>PA, but this thing might sound kinda old school cool in the context of this group. I usually play the P/J thru a little SWR WM12 when I dont wanna lug the upright, which is ok, it works, but I think this is gonna be mo better.

I've been rehearsing with an old Bassman head. I don't know what year, and I don't know what SF means in this context. I run it into a Sunn 200S cabinet with the original JBL D140 drivers. Sounds pretty good, but not as good as the 200S, IMO. Gets the job done, though.

A long time ago, I used a borrowed Bassman Ten, the combo with a Bassman amp and four 10" drivers. I always like the sound of that.

When I was stationed in Florida, I had a Bassman 50 with a 1x15" cabinet. That sounded all right, too.
