Hi all - I used to post under seraphim7s a few years ago. I think my account got deleted due to inactivity so I opened up another one. I remembered how helpful you guys were, and, since I'm planning on starting up a soul / roots rock band I thought I'd ask a coupla questions.

Has anyone given this a go? http://www.bassmute.com/bassmute/bm_mainframe.html

They're quite pricey, but apart from fashioning crude mutes with foam (which never worked for me) or getting Fender's own mutes (which - as far as I can remember - only work with a Jazz) it's a decent option for someone who wants that muted sound?

Also, have been looking into getting an all tube rig, and found this http://vyseamps.com/standard-amp-kits.htm - scroll down to find the Thunder Bass 120W

Anyone have any experience with them? I'm pretty excited because I can get it in tweed to match my cabs (a pretty silly reason, I admit).

Thanks in advance for any help.

I've never used that particular mute, but there are other options.

The easiest is muting with the heel of your right hand and plucking the strings with either your thumb or a pick. Doing it that way you can instantly adjust the amount of muting to whatever you need. With add-on mutes you have to be very careful how you adjust them so that you get exactly the right amount of muting. If you use your hand you have much more control. And it's free.

Just noticed that bassmuteclamp.com now have some MUCH cheaper shipping options on their website.....without the little wooden box.......$25 (Austrian dollar is low too) including shipping worldwide!
