This is fake, right?

Your link took me to the 'front page' of the website and not whatever item you intended to link to... DH Gate, Trade Tang, whatever. If it's too good to be true (like a $350 Rickenbacker), it ISN'T. Lots of fake Rickenbackers, Music Man basses and Les Paul guitars. They usually look pretty good in the photos, and some people on forums have bought them and report varying levels of quality from "about as good as an Epiphone" to worse.

If you weren't aware of these before, be glad you are aware these exist now. I'm sure plenty of people have been scammed on Craigslist because they don't know enough to tell a Chinese fake from the real thing. Although they are technically illegal to import, they still seem to make it through, I've read several threads on forums where people bought Chinese counterfeit guitars and basses.

Take a look at that jack plate, see how well it's lined up with the hole in the body? See how the jackplate screws are not tightened down, and one is at an odd angle? Notice how the jackplate looks like it's as thin as a beercan? And this is the bass they used as the 'photo model.'

Wow! :eekphil:

Not only is it counterfeit, it's a lousy copy with poor construction. I guess that's not all that uncommon on counterfeits. You get what you pay for.

Do. Not. Want.

My guitars have all been purchased from dealers in the USA. They didn't come in a cardboard box either.

I take that back I have a Gibson SG classic. I played extra for a hardshell case for it (TKL cases), and wouldn't you know it was shipped in individually.

You got something good, you put it in a decent case.

Gog bags are hand but offer limited protection. That is unless it's the gig bag case that my Godin 5th Ave came in.

It might offer plenty of protection, but good is it a hideous case. They have done worse too. The other Godin 5th Ave I put in a TKL.

Music shop here in Thailand had fake Les Paul few years ago. As it cost me nothing to look at, what the hey.... Didn't check intonation, neck warp and all that, but if I were interested and build quality (wood, neck etc) I thought hmmm replace all electronics and tuner.... Didn't go further as I am not a Les Paul fan anyway. To shop's credit, they immediately pointed out it was a fake.

But, like others pointed out, 100% fake. If something is too good to be true, it probably isn't true

Aliexpress is the Asian Ebay. all they sell is counterfeit and cloned instruments. They may change a few things them unique or combine parts from different clones. If you're into modifying instruments you can sometimes make out buying one cheap then fixing it up. I've bought several necks from them and its kind of hit or miss.

The fret jobs on the necks and instruments aren't all that great. Out of a half dozen I got maybe 2 necks I'd consider decent. The rest needed to have the frets replaced to get them playable. Rough fret ends, uneven tops, inferior fret material alloys which lack the nickel content are pretty much standard on the necks which is their biggest flaw. Finishes can be all over the map. I came across one where the slightest tap caused huge chunks of the finish to chip off. They had some kind of soft rubber like base coat underneath and the lacquer wouldn't stick to it.

Pickups in many can either be Artec type clone quality or simply horrific junk. You wont find any high quality pickups or hardware on any of them.

You have to go through the wiring too. Pots and switches are typically a joke. They may resemble a better switch from the outside but when you open it up and give it a close look you see just how crappy things are.

Assembly can be really bad too. Necks out of alignment with pickups and bridge, wrong neck angles and you can be guaranteed you need to spend weeks trying to iron out the flaws and tweak them to sound right. From there it may require an additional 6 months for that neck to settle down and finally stop moving or it may wind up being a basket case. They pump those counterfeits out so fast and the wood is so green to begin with anything that was cut and supposed to be flat is going to change as it dries out. I've had a few necks warp up and twisted so badly the only fix was to replace the fret board and that's simply not worth the effort on a neck that cost less then $50
