A made-in 1963 bass would definitely be made prior to the USA debut of the Beatles in February 1964.

If the year was 1963 - were the Beatles such a big thing in Europe at the time this instrument was manufactured?

IF this is a 1963 bass, I'm thinking it's a bass not inspired by Paul's Hofner.

Think about it -- a pre-Beatles Beatle bass -- sui generis.

That looks like my first bass! Looked tres cool!

Actually, I hated the big flat spot on the headstock, but the rest of the bass was happening.

Sounded like @$$ though...

Odds are they were going for the Hofner look, with or without a Beatles connection. They also did violin body guitars during that era.

The Sweed's tried to capture a little Hofner/Vox and Ampeg with that one. They were made during the same years in the 60's.

Even in the 60's there was allot of competition between brands. The Beatles had everyone jumping on the Violin Bass Band Wagon.

Sakovia did one too.

Even in the 60's Japan was doing clones with the Norma (likely a branded Teisco or matsumi) Theey even copied the headstock
