Members -Ed Phobes-
Thanks in advance! I took this P-Bass in trade from a friend several years ago. I want to sell it, but don't know enough about basses to make an accurate assessment of its specs and worth. Any help is appreciated. Serial number is Z1007XXX. Finish is transparent red with grain showing through (doesn't photograph well - looks solid red). I'm pretty sure the P'ups are not stock. Made in USA. The person I got it from was fond of modding/upgrading.
Moderators daddymack Posted July 3, 2017 Moderators Share Posted July 3, 2017 The bass was made between 2000 and 2001. The Bartolini p-ups are most definitely aftermarket, and this now looks like it is attempting to be a Mexican Deluxe Series active. The Mexican versions run from [depending on condition] between $400-800; a USA model from that era, modified as this was, could fetch more, maybe up to $1000+, but as it is no longer stock, that is a matter of conjecture. Here is one similarly modded on Reverb:https://reverb.com/item/5011443-fend...precision-bass
Members Mikeo
I don't know what mods have been made, but if the bass has active pick ups it's called an American Deluxe Precision. I heard they stopped putting active pups in it down the road. I have a American Deluxe Jazz bass, with active pups. It's a killer bass with see thru white finish. The body on the Deluxe Jazz is smaller than a traditional Jazz, mine looks like this. The body on the precision my be a bit smaller too The came in a case like this, but if you notice the latches they are really nice. New the jazz and precision deluxes sold for about 1200 bucks out teh door. They are not super common. Here's 40th anniversary http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fender-American-Deluxe-Precision-Bass-/172745435473?epid=78628799&hash=item28386e2951:g:P04AAOSwHLNZTWhX and a new one, so they might still make them as special runs. Like I said I'm not sure your has active pick ups or not. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fender-American-Deluxe-Precision-Bass-Rosewood-3-Color-Sunburst-545-/252956089256?_trksid=p2349526.m2548.l4275 I can't actually give you a value of what the bass is worth, but from what I have posted, I hope you get the idea. I wouldn't what to tell you you could sell if for 1000 and sell you short, or have it sit for 2 years.
Moderators daddymack Posted July 4, 2017 Moderators Share Posted July 4, 2017 I thought it was an American Deluxe at first, but the Am Del's [at least the ones from that era I have seen] have four knobs. The Mexican made 'Special Deluxe' has 3 knobs; but as this bass was a Corona build, it is neither, so the beast was modded. It also appears that the output jack was relocated as the third knob is where the old jack was, and the output jack is now on the lower bout edge, a far nicer place, IMHO... As there is no pickup selector switch, I am guessing the tone pot was swapped out to some sort of pan control to separate/mix the two p-ups...? Members DeepEnd
The bass has been identified, of all places in The Political Party: http://www.harmonycentral.com/forum/forum/Off-Topic/OT_The_Political_Party/32011193-ot-need-help-iding-specs-on-a-p-bass. It's an American Hot Rod P-Bass. The Bartolini pickups are an aftermarket upgrade. I suspected that's what it was based on pics at Reverb.com but I kept my mouth shut.
