Members MisterJBass
I would like to upgrade the pickups on my basic, Mexican-made fretless Fender J-Bass. My goal is to have a good overall sound that will suit me for playing blues, R and B, and some jazz, and will sound good when I accompany acoustic instruments. Had Seymour Duncans on an old bass and thought they were OK, but a bit bright. Any suggestions?
Members Mikeo
I have a American made Jazz Bass DeLuxe in a see thru white ash body, that has active pick ups. It's quite amazing. They make a MIM verson too. The body is slightly smaller than a standard Jazz, and it has a lot of tones including the big bottom end of the a P Bass. I liked it so much I sold my Fender P Bass, but kept my American Jazz Standard. Maybe the Dunacn Antiquity would be an option. I have heard good things about them. You might dig these too. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/099-2101-000?adpos=1t1&creative=175866249285&device=c&matchtype=b&network=g&gclid=CjwKEAjw1a3KBRCY9cfsmdmWgQ0SJAATUZ8bwx9jFW8P9S6imUdhEFWnVBH1R_tt_VDy-ut148VJTRoCq1Dw_wcB
Moderators isaac42 Posted June 23, 2017 Moderators Share Posted June 23, 2017 If the pickups are too bright, why not just roll back the tone control? Maybe get less bright strings.
Members MisterJBass
Tried that. If only it were so easy! Mikro, those Fender custom shop pickups sound like a real possibility. Thanks.
