Best Pickups for Fretless J-Bass

I would like to upgrade the pickups on my basic, Mexican-made fretless Fender J-Bass. My goal is to have a good overall sound that will suit me for playing blues, R and B, and some jazz, and will sound good when I accompany acoustic instruments. Had Seymour Duncans on an old bass and thought they were OK, but a bit bright.

Any suggestions?

I have a American made Jazz Bass DeLuxe in a see thru white ash body, that has active pick ups.

It's quite amazing. They make a MIM verson too.

The body is slightly smaller than a standard Jazz, and it has a lot of tones including the big bottom end of the a P Bass.

I liked it so much I sold my Fender P Bass, but kept my American Jazz Standard.

Maybe the Dunacn Antiquity would be an option. I have heard good things about them.

You might dig these too.
