As I mentioned in isaac42's thread (http://www.harmonycentral.com/forum/forum/Bass/acapella-17/31672244-big-show-this-weekend), my wife and I had tickets to see the Melvin Turnage Band last night: http://www.melvinturnageband.com/. They're a local R&B/MoTown group, eleven pieces in all, plus vocalist. Mr. Turnage himself is an accomplished guitarist. It was a good time with a couple of exceptions. First, they were very loud. At the intermission, I felt like my ears were full of cotton. Afterward, I kept my fingers in my ears except to applaud. Second, most of the material was quite good but at one point they did a jazz version of "My Favorite Things" and to be polite it wasn't my cup of--well--anything. I've heard it done as a jazz number by others and I know it can be done and done well but it didn't work for me in this case.
