Members BeeTL
For the most part, if it's a Chinese site advertising a "perfect" recreation of a rare instrument, the instrument hasn't even been milled yet. The photos are usually lifted directly off the builder's or a retailer's site. A quick Google photo search proves this to be true, and here's a link to a Facebook post where it happened to Doug at Kauer Guitars:

A quick Google photo search proves this to be true, and here's a link to a Facebook post where it happened to Doug at Kauer Guitars: There's a whole load of Chibson posts out there in YouTube land, and as the above posts, many sellers on the Chinese sites are just lifting photos from genuine guitars from the original manufacturer's site. However and the particular sellers are known, there are a group of very good Chinese factories making very good quality fakes, that ultimately will need better electronics, some fret twaeking and some minor work, but the woodwork and finish is all done at around the 2-400USD mark for R9, Rics etc. It's becoming less and less of a crap shoot, but you need a fair amount of research before you go spending too much. Th epics to watch out for are guitars on floors or plain cardboard boxes, usually indicating a built copy, and the best sellesr will basically make you whatever you want. Sorta " You want it, we fake it it"
