  • Casio LK-175 Lighted-Key Keyboard

    By Team HC |

Few instruments offer a better introduction to the art and craft of playing music than a good keyboard. And as the holidays approach and thoughts turn to musical gifts for the budding musician in your family (or yourself, if you're looking to branch out your talents), an affordable, beginner-friendly model is something that anyone would love to find under the tree. This year, Casio introduced several new models that fit the bill, and this week we'll be looking at the LK-175, a lighted-key model with a ton of great learning features onboard.

    What You Need To Know

    • The LK-175 is designed to maximize the enjoyment of learning to play, with 61 full-size keys and a host of features to guide you as you learn and keep you having fun

    • The LK-175 is loaded with 400 of Casio's AHL (Acoustic & Highly-compressed Large-waveform) tones, 150 rhythms, 110 songs, 48-note polyphony and 10 digital effects for a robust playing and learning experience

    • The wide palette of tones covers instruments including acoustic and electric pianos, organs, percussion implements, brass and woodwinds, synths, ethnic and folk instruments, and much more

    • Lighted keys and Casio's Step Up Learning System make learning a progressive, fun  and rewarding experience, while building the dexterity and muscle memory needed to master the keyboard

    • Onboard sampling allows you to capture and create your own sounds for playback through the built-in microphone, or connect your own mic through a dedicated input

    • Stereo speakers deliver bold, crisp sound, with a headphone output for practicing and playing without disturbing others

    • USB MIDI connection allows simple interfacing with computer and iOS devices

    Limitations

The LK-175 is aimed at beginning keyboard players, so expect it to be an instrument that you'll use predominantly to learn with and eventually outgrow as you continue playing.

    Conclusion

The LK-175 is a great way to introduce music in general or specifically the piano to a budding musician of any age, as well as established musicians on other instruments who want to learn their way around a keyboard. Its sub-$150 price point, 400 tones and learning features make it a winner, with lighted keys that make learning even easier (and more enjoyable). As a gift for the holidays to a young musician or a gift to yourself, the LK-175 is a feature-rich way to get started on the right foot.
