KNOXVILLE, TN, April 11, 2012 Waves Audio, the industry-leading developer of professional audio digital signal processing technologies, is now shipping its NLS Non-Linear Summer, which delivers the sound of three classic consoles in one powerful plugin. To create NLS, Waves joined forces with three of today’s leading producer / engineers – Mark ´Spike´ Stent, Mike Hedges and Yoad Nevo – modeling their rare mixing desks.

wa.jpg
NLS recreates the sound of:
  • The “magical” solid state console belonging to Mark “Spike” Stent (Radiohead, Björk, Muse, Maroon 5, Madonna).
  • The classic console owned by Mike Hedges (The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Dido, Faithless, Manic Street Preachers, U2), heard on such timeless recordings as Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon.
  • The British console customized for Yoad Nevo (Bryan Adams, Pet Shop Boys, Sugababes, Goldfrapp, Air).
In the creation of this plugin, Waves meticulously modeled over 100 individual channels in all, painstakingly analyzing and recreating the distinctive color, character, and behavior of each and every input and summing bus amp. Waves NLS delivers to the digital realm the depth and richness that has long been associated exclusively with analog gear.

Features:
  • Non-linear summing enhancement
  • Three legendary consoles in one plugin
  • Over 100 individually modeled channel and summing buss amps
  • Developed in association with top producer/engineers
  • Adds analog warmth and character
  • Global control over all NLS plugins in the session
Controls

—Contest offers a chance to have an artist’s song mixed by Chris Lord-Alge, one of today’s most in-demand engineers—

KNOXVILLE, TN, March 14, 2012 Waves  Audio, the industry-leading developer of professional audio digital signal processing technologies, and AudioFanzine, an online magazine catering to musicians as well as sound engineers, home-studio recording enthusiasts, and audio engineers, have teamed up to present the CLA  Song Competition. The contest gives entrants a chance to have their song mixed  by multi-GRAMMY® Award-winner Chris Lord-Alge (CLA), one of today’s most  in-demand engineers. Lord-Alge’s credits include such acts as Green Day, Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Dave Matthews Band and Daughtry, to name only a few. Participants can enter through the Waves website or Facebook page.

To enter, artists should submit their best song, and Lord-Alge will pick  the winner himself. He will make his choice based on the overall presentation: song, image and performance. The Top 25 finalists will be chosen by public voting; one lucky (and talented) artist or band will have their song mixed by none other than CLA himself.

ch.jpg
“I am super-excited about this. I am all about finding the best song and giving it the best mix,” stated Lord-Alge. “What I’m looking for is the best possible song with the best structure, getting to the point and showing me the lyrics and melody. So it’s not going to be about how good your mix is, it’s going to be how good your song is, because the mixing part is going to be on me. A good song to me gets its point across in three minutes, four minutes max, so make sure that what you send me is the best arrangement you can come up with for your song. I look forward to bringing this competition to a close with a great mix for Waves, AudioFanzine and the winner of the competition. Good luck.”

— New Plugin Corrects Track Phasing and Alignment Issues —

KNOXVILLE, TN, February 21, 2012 Waves Audio, the industry-leading developer of professional audio digital signal processing technologies, is now shipping its InPhase plugin. Designed for recording, mix, mastering and live FOH/monitoring engineers, InPhase has been developed to correct phasing issues between tracks. Phasing can cause drops in volume and wreak havoc on frequency response and stereo image; InPhase gives users a comprehensive tool to correct such problems.

As many engineers and producers know, phasing problems are encountered during all stages of the production process:

  1. In recording, when multiple sources such as microphones and direct signals are used to capture the same sound (e.g., individual drums and drum overheads, guitars recorded using both an amp and DI, amps recorded using multiple mics, etc.).
  2. In mixing, when phase issues that were not addressed during the recording process need to be corrected.
  3. In mastering, when the stereo mix has phasing issues.

InPhase.jpg

Even small timing differences can cause subtle drops in volume as well as reduced punch and clarity. Waves’ InPhase gives users the power to align their tracks and restore phase coherence.

InPhase is the ultimate phase correction plugin, featuring high resolution dual waveform displays with up-to-sample resolution zoom; phase shift filters with adjustable frequency and Q; and an intuitive correlation meter, which shows users just how much they are in or out of phase. Users can move their waveforms manually or using the delay control, and even align them in relation to a sidechain input. The phase shift curve window shows users the phase shift curve across the frequency line; the correlation meter shows to what extent tracks are in- or out-of-phase; and the plugin features dual second-order allpass filters. InPhase includes mono, stereo, and dedicated live components, plus InPhase LT, a simplified version that gives you easy access to creative phase manipulation.

InPhase Controls:

  • Alpha and Beta processing sections.
  • Process controls let us choose what to process.
  • Activity LED shows when there is input signal activity.
  • Gain controls the level of the signal going into the processing section.
  • Phase Invert flips the phase by 180 degrees.

Waves Audio, the industry leader in professional audio digital signal processing technologies, unveils the MPX Master Tape plugin. Developed in association with legendary producer/engineer Eddie Kramer (Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Kiss) as part of an ongoing series of collaborations, the MPX Master Tape plugin is modeled on a rare machine consisting of an Ampex 350 transport and 351 electronics. With adjustable tape speed, bias, flux, wow and flutter, along with noise parameters, the MPX provides comprehensive control over the contours of any sound. To top it off, Waves has added a flexible slap and feedback delay, ideal for rock, dance, dub and countless other styles. For recording, mixing, mastering and more, MPX brings the richness and warmth of real tape saturation to any DAW setup.

When Waves started their hardware modeling project with Eddie Kramer, it was always their intention to create a model of the original recording chain from Olympic Studios in London that Kramer used on his great recordings of Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix. The first two plugins resulting from this project were the successful HLS Channel and PIE Compressor. The last piece of the chain was the MPX Master Tape plugin. The Ampex 350 and 351 valve tape machines were mainstays of the recording industry and were used for literally thousands of hit albums and singles over more than two decades of recording. Waves tracked down a perfectly maintained machine (owned by veteran mixer/engineer Eric Schilling), and began the long, complex modeling process. Assisting Waves were Bob Olhsson (Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross) and co-developer John Haeny (Jim Morrison and the Doors, John Coltrane, Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne). Waves used 3M Scotch 206/207 tape for the modeling, as it was considered an almost ideal match for this machine.

MPX co-developer John Haeny stated, Do you want to impart warmth, sweetness and clarity without any muddiness to your entire mix or just an element or two in your mix? Would you like to offset the harshness and clinical quality of digital? Would you like a good and easy way to glue your mix together? The MPX is the answer to all of these questions. I take great pride in having been a part of the development team for this particular product. Its a plugin Ive been dreaming of for decades, and I think Waves has finally accomplished what so many have tried to do and failed. Not only has Waves done it, theyve done it in spades! I am confident that many will find uses for MPX in mixes, sub-mixes, mastering or across the final bus of their mixes. This is the real, original Ampex sound I remember, and this is a real game changer.

The Waves MPX Master Tape plugin is now available at a U.S. MSRP of $200 Native/$300 TDM, with special introductory prices of $99 Native/$149 TDM being offered for a limited time. It is also available at no additional charge to owners of Waves Mercury with current Waves Update Plan coverage. For more information, please visit www.waves.com.

Waves Audio mourns the passing of a longtime friend, producer/engineer and multi-
talented musician Tal Herzberg. Tal is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Tals involvement with Waves goes back to its very beginnings, when he became the
companys first official U.S. West Coast user, forging a close association that
continued and developed until his untimely passing. He was one of Waves first
employees, and through his immense success as an engineer and producer, Waves
proudly transitioned Tal to one of its most important Artists. Tal often credited
his early experiences with Pro Tools and Waves as having contributed to his
subsequent success in the highly competitive Los Angeles music industry.

Tal was a six-time GRAMMY nominee. His lengthy list of credits as a producer and
engineer includes high-profile artists from across the musical spectrum, including
Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga, Mary J. Blige, The Pussycat Dolls, Counting Crows, Macy
Gray, Keyshia Cole and Queen Latifah. An accomplished musician as well, Tal
performed and recorded as a bassist with artists including The Corrs, Beth Hart and
Mya.

Gilad Keren, Waves founder and CEO, stated, Tal was a very talented musician and
engineer, but more than that, he was a close personal friend. He was the kind of guy
you could call at any time of the day or night, and hed be there for you.
Personally, I feel a tremendous loss.
