Swar Systems is happy to announce the release of an improved version (1.3) of the Librarian for SwarPlug/SwarTrax.

Here are the main enhancements:

  • Drag & drop to sequencer
  • BPM control
  • Nr of beats control
  • Volume control
  • Export parameters (pitch, nr of loops, patch selection type, include/exclude starting header)
  • Improved playback quality on Mac
  • Mac Intel compatibility

SwarShala Pro Update
Along with the new Librarian, Swar Systems has also released a new update for SwarShala Pro (version 3.0.9) that allows you to drag & drop a sequence directly into your sequencer, allowing a perfect integration of SwarShala with your SwarPlug/SwarTrax-enabled sequencer! The program just generates a corresponding MIDI file on the fly.

You can also tailor the exported MIDI files with the same parameters as the Librarian.

Mac Intel compatibility
Both SwarShala and Swar Librarian have been compiled as Universal Binaries and therefore run natively on both Intel and PowerPC (PPC) computers.

The SwarPlug plugin however is still a PPC program. It will run on Intel if called by a PPC-only sequencer, through the in-built emulator Rosetta. Swar Systems should be releasing a ported version of it within a couple of months.

SwarPlug

After 2 volumes focused on North Indian instruments, Swar Systems has gone south to bring composers a collection of instruments and loops from the abode of the carnatic tradition. These new sounds are for use with the SwarPlug virtual instrument.

Featured instruments are:

  • Mridangam
  • Kappi Mridangam
  • Ghatam
  • Kanjeera
  • Morsing
  • Veena
  • Nadaswaram
  • Tavil
  • Tamte
  • Udukke
  • Dollu
  • Chende
  • Ghat Singhari
  • Konnakol

All these instruments come with a collection of groovy rhythmic/melodic loops.

Swar Systems has also updated the SwarPlug plug-in which is used to play these new sounds, as well as the previously released two volumes of North Indian instruments. SwarPlug is now available in Audio Unit format, based on the CronoX 2 sampler, in addition to VSTi format. More controls have been added to the user interface as well, including envelope sliders and dual pitch knobs (for tuning drums with two sides). The SwarPlug update is free to registered users.

SwarPlug also comes with thousands of MIDI rhythms and melodies from the Indian subcontinent and Librarian software to browse them.

SwarPlug with the Volume Sound 1 sound set for Mac or Windows costs $170. Upgrades for existing SwarPlug users that wish to add the South Indian sound to their library are available for $30.

Swar Systems, a Switzerland-based company specialized in Indian music software, has just released a whole new set of instruments from North India on all their products (standalone software, VST plugins, Akai/Reason patches). They have named this new set as Volume North 2 , while the currently featured instruments are now referred to as Volume North 1 .

The instruments included in this new collection are: Dhol, Naal, Duff, Dimdi, Tudd, Gunghroo, Tumbak, Duggis, Chimta, Stick-Tambourines, Israj, Banjo, Tumbi and Harmonium (new patch). A more detailed description of each instrument can be found on their web site.

Volume North 2 includes a large array of typical rhythms and melodies from the Indian folk/classical repertoire in MIDI and/or proprietary format that can form a base for creating compositions from scratch.
