Dedicated modular controller system comprising six slim control units with pads, knobs and faders that cover aspects of handling Cubase

HAMBURG, Germany — Steinberg Media Technologies GmbH announces its new CMC controllers. Dedicated to Steinberg’s Cubase advanced music production system, the six USB-powered CMC units offer an integrated control solution that provides a desirable degree of flexibility and configurability.

The CMC controllers are equipped with a combination of control elements that provide tactile control over certain Cubase functions. Each unit can be used separately or hooked up together with the included joint plate, resulting in a control desk that leaves no wishes unfulfilled.

“The CMC controllers are ultra-portable and the design’s perfect, but more importantly, the units offer a mind-blowing array of control options. Without a doubt, the CMCs are the perfect complement to Cubase, and Nuendo too,” commented Stefan Schreiber, Steinberg’s product marketing manager for hardware.

The CMC-CH channel controller houses 16 illuminated rubber push-buttons, one rotary encoder and a touch fader. The multi-colored buttons provide access to VST instrument settings, solo and mute tracks, bypass EQs, sends and inserts and channel freeze. Eight of the 16 buttons can also be assigned to a second function. The Channel Select button browses through the entire Cubase mixer, while the rotary encoder is used for panning. The LED-based touch fader controls the volume level while displaying the fader position.

The CMC-FD fader controller features four high-precision touch faders with LED-based metering and solo/mute function. The touch faders offer simultaneous control over four channels in Cubase. With the Channel Select and Bank Select buttons, users can jump to individual channels or select entire channel groups in the Cubase mixer. Up to four FD units can be combined together for 16-channel control.

The CMC-QC quick controller boasts 13 illuminated buttons and eight rotary encoders in three different modes: EQ, Quick Control and MIDI. In EQ mode, the rotary encoders reflect the channel EQ controls in Cubase, while the QC mode maps Quick Control capability onto the encoders for controlling effects and other parameters. The MIDI mode turns the unit into a freely configurable MIDI controller. Eight of the 13 push-buttons can be assigned to random Cubase functions. The included CMC-QC editor allows users to adjust MIDI control change parameters through the computer.

The CMC-PD pad controller features 16 highly responsive backlit pads and one rotary encoder. The pads change their background color according to the pressure exerted. Depressing the pads triggers MIDI notes or selects volume response curves. In 4Velocity mode, the pads are used for easy step recording. The rotary encoder browses sounds and presets in Cubase. The included PD editor software is used to assign MIDI notes to each pad.

The CMC-TP transport controller houses 17 buttons and a touch slider. The slider allows users to jog or shuttle through the project, tap in the tempo, scroll, zoom and browse. All major transport functions, including play, stop, record, cycle, fast forward and rewind, are controlled via the CMC-TP. Other buttons are used, for example, to insert markers, set the locator range or insert new tracks. The top four buttons can each be assigned to a second function, for even more control in Cubase.

The CMC-AI controller highlights Steinberg’s universal AI Knob, together with its ten function buttons. The AI Knob allows users to control any control element in Cubase by simply moving the mouse cursor over it. In Volume mode, the AI Knob turns into a high-precision master volume control whereas in Jog mode, the AI Knob is used to jog through the project. The AI Knob also doubles as a browse button to search and select presets. The four function buttons can be assigned to further control parameters.

CMC accessories comprise the CMC Studio Frame 4 and the CMC CC121 Extension Frame. The CMC Studio Frame 4 is a durable construction for housing up to four CMC units. The CMC CC121 Extension Frame can hold up to two CMC units and one CC121 controller.

Availability and pricing

Steinberg introduces the desktop UR28M interface with 6 inputs and 8 outputs and the rackmountableUR824 interface with 24 inputs/outputs, both with dspMixFx technology for DSP-powered, latency-free monitoring

HAMBURG, Germany — Steinberg Media Technologies GmbH reveals the beginning of its new range of audio interfaces with USB 2.0 connectivity: the rack-mountable UR824 interface and the desktop UR28M interface. While the UR28M is shipping as of today, the UR824 will first be available in November of this year.

With the UR interfaces, Steinberg offers two professional solutions for musicians and producers. Both interfaces provide sufficient means of connectivity, D-Pre microphone preamps plus DSP-powered reverb and channel strip effects for monitoring at zero latency.

Steinberg.jpg

“The UR pair boasts excellent sound characteristics and provides monitoring mixes at no latency whatsoever. Consider the UR824 a comprehensive I/O solution and the UR28M an interface and dedicated monitor controller in one desktop console,” commented Stefan Schreiber, hardware product marketing manager at Steinberg.

Hamburg/Anaheim  – Steinberg Media Technologies GmbH is delighted and honored to announce the release of two pro-audio VST/AU signal processing plug-ins that reflect the overarching alliance between Yamaha, Rupert Neve Designs, Inc. and Steinberg. Both 5033 EQ and 5043 compressor plug-ins are now  available.

“By announcing the release of two virtual pendants of the renowned Portico signal  processors, the alliance between Yamaha, Rupert Neve Designs and Steinberg is coming to fruition. I’m elated to count these two highly sophisticated effect plug-ins to our product range, as both meet Steinberg’s exacting standards,” said Andreas Stelling, Steinberg’s  managing director.

Particularly known for designing all-analog signal processing equipment, Rupert Neve has been looking for the right technology to port his legendary designs to the digital domain. With Yamaha’s Virtual Circuitry Modeling (VCM) technology, this coveted intention was able to be realized, evolving to an alliance between Yamaha, Rupert Neve Designs and Steinberg. The very first plug-ins incorporating VCM  technology emulating analog Portico hardware are now the RND Portico 5033  equalizer and RND Portico 5043 compressor.

“With  the Yamaha VCM technology, we’re able to pick up the amazing quality of  musicality and accuracy that was inherent in the original Rupert Neve Designs  Portico modules,” said Rupert Neve.

The  RND Portico 5033 five-band equalizer comes with three bands of fully parametric filters, each with dedicated gain, center-frequency, and Q controls as well as one band each of high and low-shelving filters. A global bypass switch and trim  control are also available.

The RND Portico 5043 compressor features threshold, ratio, attack, release and gain controls for intricate signal compression. The feed-forward or feed-back  compression mode allow users to switch between an aggressive and subtle compression response.

Steinberg Media Technologies GmbH is proud to present a new VST instrument product created to offer the ideal all-around composition and production workstation. HALion Sonic combines a world-class 12GB sample library produced by Steinberg and Yamaha with a fully featured synthesis engine to offer synths, hybrid, and acoustic instruments for composers, producers, musicians, and sound designers in almost any conceivable production setting. HALion Sonic will be available in Q3 2010 for PC and Mac and cost $329.99 MSRP.

“HALion Sonic reaches a new level in intuitive handling and control while offering truly unlimited sonic dimensions for the demanding artist and producer,” comments Helge Vogt, Steinberg’s Product Marketing Manager for Cubase and the HALion product range. “While designing HALion Sonic as the musician’s ideal go-to composition and production instrument, we realized that is it’s not enough just to offer great content, instruments and FX, you also have to make all those sonic possibilities easily and intuitively useable in both the production and live performance arenas. Because we’re using next-generation technology that will also feature in our upcoming HALion 4 virtual sampler, HALion Sonic does exactly that on the basis of some of the most advanced music production technology available today,” Vogt continues.

The underlying sound engine features four different modes that offer a huge array of sound production tools. The high-performance disk streaming engine recreates acoustic instruments, while a dedicated sliced-loop mode offers a complete beat and rhythm production toolkit. A special drum mode includes everything needed to produce studio-grade drum tracks while the fully editable virtual analogue synthesis section offers almost limitless sound generation possibilities. Each of the 16 simultaneously loadable instruments features up to four complex sound ‘layers’ as well as its own four-way FX rack, including top quality FX such as the REVerence convolution reverb from Cubase 5.

Spanning over 1000 instruments across 12GB, the included library is the result of intense cooperation between Steinberg and the Yamaha sound design team behind the famed MOTIF series. Up to 20 articulations per instrument provide depth and expressiveness for a huge range of instruments and styles, while support for Steinberg’s VST Expression technology allows Cubase owners easy control of all HALion Sonic articulations within Cubase. HALion Sonic also includes the powerful FlexPhrase module, driving beats, arpeggios and complex musical phrases including automatic switching of articulations.

HALion Sonic has been designed to make its vast array of production and sound design tools both intricately customizable as well as fast and intuitive to use. The incorporated MediaBay sound management system gives immediate access to all sounds, instruments, presets and phrases, with support for musically orientated categories and user tagging. With full support for MIDI Learn, HALion Sonic is easy to setup for MIDI controller hardware, while the Quick Controls system pulls up the most important parameters for each sound to dedicated controls for direct access. HALion Sonic makes setting up keyboard splits and layers quick and easy, while switching between entire Multi-Setups with a single key or button push. The included standalone version further highlights the suitability of HALion Sonic for live performance use on stage.
